Sprockets and chain

YEARS AGO I WENT up 3 teeth on my front sprocket of my dearly departed 350x honda. but had to leave the chain loose because if it had proper slack it wouldnt mesh properly with the rear and come off.... so what im triing to figure out is if i went 4 teeth bigger on the front would it work ? in general is there a rule of thumb about sprocket sizing ? its cheaper to buy just the front and not mess with the rear so im triing to figere this out.. :wondering

A 16 tooth sprocket would definitely not fit in there? I heard the max was 15 tooth.... so I don't know how you would get a 17 in there.

i don't understand how sprocket size would cause this to happen. maybe you had sprocket alignment issues?

1 up/down in front is = to 3 up/down in rear. I'd rather change the rear out. dial it in with junk sprocket and chain, once you do buy all new stuff.

The 15 for the front is the max and I believe it is a tight fit and the case saver cannot be used

The 14 tooth front can use the OEM guard and sometimes needs a just hair of grinding. Those are the ones I leave the case saver bolts loose with with the chain on the sprocket. Then I can place it over the counter shaft as an assembly

42/12 = 3.50

44/13 = 3.38

50/15 = 3.33 (If 50 fits above the skid plate)

They're all fairly close.

I wouldn't run anything without a case saver though.........

I think stock is 40/13 or 3.07. It pulls a 14 front well with merely removing the air box lid, adding a pipe and getting some larger jets in there.
An UNI filter helps to :D

ooppss my bad it was the rear... no the alignment was fine but the -3 SMALLER rear sprocket ( guess im getting allsimers) just didnt take to a properly adjusted chain...
