my initial plan was to rebuild my 2 engines, i have a 83 185s, and a 85 200s. thanks to "atc350xer" i got the idea to put the top end from the 185 on the 200 bottom end. To beef it up some more i decided i wanted to put a 200x carb, cam, and exhaust on it as well so i could have a nice powerful, and fast hunting machine. but after doing some research, ive heard that all the cams from the 185's, and 200's are all the same. but ive heard that using an xr200 cam and carb is the way to go. what should i go with? im not sure how much more speed or power ill get out of these little mods but i know there will be some difference in it, i just want a nice machine and i want it to be little creative project tha i can call my own since im putting on my own little twists...any suggestions or info?

well i guess it all comes down to how much you want to spend.... another post today had a guy that put 800 $ plus into a 1983 185s and now wants to sell and is prolly gonna have a hard time getting his $ back....remember as we get older our priorities change as does the size of our machines ( well most of the time ) hehe good luck but i dont think the gain is worth the $ buy a 250r or 350x or 250 sx or es big red.......but thats me....

Well i dont think the cam and carb would be very spendy. and im not looking to make a mint machine. the topend needed to be rebuilt anyways and i only want to buy some stuff for it to ride for a year or so and then sell. i got myself a 250r and thats plenty fast but for the 185 its a perfect hunting machine and ive hauled a few deer with it in the past until it started to sputter and had no power...so i figured since i needed to rebuild it anyways id put the topend of the 185 on the 200 and just put a 200x or xr200 cam and carb on there to give it a little more kick. it should only cost me about 40 for a carb, and up to 60 for a cam... so after its all done ill have about 400$ into a machine that costs me about 150.

I have the XR200 cam/carb setup in my 84 200S, along with a Wiseco 10.25:1 piston and DG exhaust. I like it! The cam is from the 83-84 XL200R and carb from an 84 XR200. Pepped up the little 200S nicely, I have no problem leaving my buddies eating my dust on their 185's and 200's.
The cam will be Honda part #14101-437-000 for the 83-84 XL200R, still listed as available on Service Honda's website for 64.95

Here's what's left of my build thread, a bunch was lost in a site crash earlier this year.:

Since the build thread, I've installed tapered steering head bearings and a Kenda Front Max front tire. I'll try to post a current pic soon.
