I have a pin size hole in my gas tank. Was going to sand down to metal on the outside area around the hole and JB weld it. Is this a good way to go about it???

no, it will work temperally, I have a 200x where the previos owner did that. I started to clean the tank and more leaks developed. I wold suggest if you plan on keeping the bike to clean and seal the tank.

The best fix is to have the hole(s) brazed. Very professional, and will last the longest.

This tank has a pretty good layer of rust in it. I already dumped a box of 2500 bb's in it with some gas and you still cant see bare metal. Will the tank sealer kits out there get rid of that kind of rust? Anybody got an extra tank for an ATC 70 they want to part with?

from my own experiance i have found on a tank that has rusted thru in one spot + has heavy rust inside ,,, well let me say it like this.
i sandblasted a bigred tank down to bare metel + even some inside.
i started with the 2 small pinholes and each time i'd get a hole brazed shut, it basically opened up another. after 1 and a half brazing rods i gave up ( using the 3 footers) that tank was just to far gone.
i got lucky + found a good replacement but still costed alot ( 70 bucks )

i'm sure you ain't wanting to run right out and spend 130 - 140 for a new plastic tank for your trike j.d. but do think your on the right track of looking for a replacement.
i tried the tank lining stuff too on another and that didn't work so well for me either. not to say it won't for you. the kreem kit has a metel etching liquid to use before the real tank lining stuff is put in.

I was watching tv and saw a commercial for Lime Away and they were bragging how it eats away lime and rust. Wonder how it would work? :-D

Just makes me think of the time when i got my boat and all the tops of the seats had heavy mildew on them, I tried all these fancy expensive boat vinyl cleaners and nothing worked. My wife comes walking out with a bottle of Tilex for showers and the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro ran right off with minimal scrubbing.

Keep a good eye open on Ebay. I just bought a '85 350X gas tank, some of the paint is worn, but still had the OEM side and top decals, Maier super scoops, OEM gas cap and petcock for $65. Inside is as clean as a whistle! I'm sure you can find something to replace your rusty tank with that will be just as economical and less headaches in the long run!

Those cleaning solutions, tank sealers, welding rods. JB Weld add up to some $$$ in a hurry! A friend of mine kept 'patching' his tank with JB weld, and some how it would always fall off. Not sure if the gas gets between the seal or what the deal was. Anyhow, very aggravating
when you have to stop riding cause you got gas leaking onto your motor and exhaust header! :?
