View Full Version : Is there any saving this seat pan?

I had planned to send the seat to Mosh to get recovered. But I noticed some rust along the edge so I took it apart and found this. This thing is in really bad shape but I do not have a new seat pan in the budget. Is there any saving this one? Any ideas on a cheap yet sturdy fix?

Oh, this is off my 84 Honda 110.

My opinion, after sandblasting that pan to stop the rust you will have very little metal left. I had a 70 seat pan that looked just like this and was swiss cheese when it was blasted. I say it is not worth saving except as a pattern for a fiberglass reproduction.

Just fill in the missing spots with some JB weld and presto good as new

At first I thought sure why not but those last few pics are horrible lol.. I would think that if you were to sandblast it or sand it down you would have a lot of work on you're (or the Mosh's) hands to repair the wholes the sanding left behind but I would give it a shot. For me it would be practice for fabricating. You're best bet in my opinion would be to get a different pan from a trashed bike or something but I am far from pro.

I've run pans like that before. I use the Plasti-Kote rust coverter that you brush on, not sure how it holds up in the long run because I have not pulled the cover and foam back off to check

Barely any rust, you'll be fine :p

This metal is so thin, I bet if I blast it there will be nothing left. I did not think about fiberglass though.
