81 250 Basket Case

I know we all hate these threads ( I sure do) but.... Here goes. Guy around me is selling an '81 250r but refuses to name a price, in stead, deferring to me to make an offer. I told him if I offer I may just insult him. He says no..... Well it's a Basket case. 2 motors and a disassembled frame/swinger. I realize it may take years to finish but I'd finally have my 2 stroke to tinker with. I has offered another guy $280 for one (rough) that actually ran. He declined and turned around and sold it to the next guy he talked to for $250..... Yep, $30 less, what a dweeb! That guy took the motor for a go cart and trashed the frame (what a waste!) Here are a few pics. I want the expert opinin of the collective peanut gallery because you guys are smarter than me. I know that fron end on the frame is certainly not an 81 250r. Other than that what do you guys think?

Honestly? 50 bucks at most in my opinion.

The last 250r I rebuilt didn't run, but was all there and I paid 100 for it. It was an 82.

ive been looking for a 250 here in WI in any shape. i found one with a trashed motor and it was the cheapest ive found... and the guy wanted 600 bucks for it!

Hmmm, that's kinda ridiculous in my opinion. I would offer him 350-400 for that bike IF he threw the extra motor in.

I bought a running riding 81 with extra parts for $650. For a complete basket case with spare motor, assuming you have enough to build a running motor, I'd go for $300-$400. Just my 2 cents.

offer a $100 and see what he says. If he says no then he has a price in mind and ask him what it is. let him know you plan on rebuilding and fixing it up, and not parting it out, to some people that makes a big difference.

Honestly that bike assembled and running they only go for 600 to 800 bucks. It's worth 50 to 175 bucks at most. Just depends on how bad you want it. Looks like it either has a 2nd gen 250r front end or a 200x front end
