Well, after 5 years of collecting parts, I finally decided to rebuild my '86 Tecate. Notice I did say rebuild becuase I do indeed knwo the difference between a rebuild and a restoration. Although I am trying to get it as close as possible, it will not be perfect. I have been able to find most of the original parts to get it where I want it. Thought since you guys all like the rebuild stories, I would share my progress.

Here is how it all started...
152328
Then it all got bagged and tagged...
152329
After a lot of cleaning and blasting, I started going through all the parts...
152320
Rebuilt the entire engine after tearing them down to the cases...
152322
152325
Then started some of the assembly...
152321
This is where I am at today...

Of course I do this as a hobby in my "free time". This progress here is over about a span of one year. Hope to have it done in a few more years. LOL.

Thanks and good eye! Previous owner must have broke it off...it is welded to the shaft. Not the ideal case, but it works and the valves are still timed right.

Looks oh so familiar! Yours was quite a bit nicer shape starting out. I got all my chassis done and now I'm working in finishing the motor. Keep up the good work!

That dang nut is LH threads and apparently 90% of people that have taken them apart didn't know.

Made some more progress on the green machine. Was able to get a new wiring harness made and got it ran as well as the exhaust, new tail light, and the switches. Starting to look like a complete bike again.

Here are a few shots of the current progress. It's almost finished. Just a few more details to go. It did make its maiden voyage down the street and back with no concerns. Was awesome to hear life back in it!
