View Full Version : 200x Blaster trike - should I do it?

Hey guys. I've been trying to think of what to do with this 200x frame and parts that I picked up from my buddy Jon Jon and I was thinking, why not take the headtube, downtube, and backbone from the 200x frame, cut the front off the blaster frame, and put the section of the frame from the 200x, on the rear part of the blaster frame. I'd use the whole front end from the 200x, and then everything else would be blaster (plastics, seat, tank, motor, swingarm, ect. pretty much everything). I want to do this for a few reasons. 1. Predator500x's Predator 500 converted into a trike is really badass and I think it came out awesome, 2. It would be lighter and faster than an 83 200x, 3. It would be 2 stroke, easier and cheaper to build more power, 4. I have more Blaster parts than a Yamaha factory incase I break anything. I think overall it would turn out pretty badass. What do you guys think? On one hand, I'm hacking up a perfectly good 200x frame and blaster frame, on the other hand, 200x frames sell for 50 bucks on ebay all day long. GIVE ME SOME INPUT! :D

I'm gonna sit the frames next to each other tomorrow and get some pics. I've got a couple ideas for how I want to do it. I'll probably end up doing it with some help from my machinist neighbor.

I appreciate the support. I was afraid I was gonna get a ton of hate for threatoning to cut up a 200x frame and put the front end on a Blaster. Well, I'll get a build thread up once the frame is fabricated with some pics of the frame mod process. Once the frame is done its just picking through my shelves of parts and putting it together

I will be back on my 86/87 200X Blaster project soon.

The pipe seems to be the largest obstacle......

I've wanted to put a blaster motor in a 200x for a long time.

I've also wanted to put a blaster motor and swing arm on a yt175. I thibk that would balance out pretty well.

My build with a Blaster motor would use 3rd gen 250r frame.I test fit a friends motor in one of my spare frames couple years ago fit well.

Sanchez has a blaster motor in a YT frame with a drag pipe out the side. I think he won his class in the races two years ago at TF. Point being, anything with a blaster motor in it is fun. You can trail ride them, or race them. And parts EVERYWHERE.

Your gonna have to put an addition on to your shop just big enough for 3-trikes for more space to work.
I say go for it "IF" you will be able to race it next year
It would be nice winter project, the pipe im sure you could figure out
You probably have 95% of the bike parts already.
Cant beat the looks of the 86/87's 200x's (well maybe those tpc 450's)

That is pretty cool I must say.....Does that trike have a 200x front end?.......What do you call it "Trikester" ?

This conversion looks pretty slick, do You think Yamaha had originally planned for a 200cc two stroke trike, then once the market changed they developed the blaster instead?

Tri-z, I mean what else should you put on it? Haha

I seen him build it (pictures), it's a lot simpler than you think. Basically just need a donor Z for the neck and front end and the rest is untouched blaster. I like the idea of a YFS motor in a 200x frame but you can't beat how quick and easy this conversion is.

You should see what his brothers building. Basically a fully upgraded racing suspension 225dx. But it uses the chain driven manual clutch version of that motor. I forget exactly what dirtbike or motorcycle it's from. Gonna be siiiiiiiick. Another build I'm jealous of.

If I ever find a local Blaster, I'm going to attempt this project.....It really looks like something Yamaha would have done before the ban. I was looking at the double cradle neck assembly.....nice touch...

I think the tri z radiator shrouds may even be a close fit on that beast, very cool indeed. I wonder how it handles.

Well the blaster is air cooled. No shrouds. Unless you are talking about another frame conversion. From what I seen it handles great.

I wonder how much work it'd take to get them mounted though for better air flow.

Lots of air cooled trikes have shrouds, but I was talking about looks, and I think some blue trimmed TRI-Z shrouds would complement that "TRI-B"nicely

I'm not even sure how you'd go about mounting them though. You'd have to tap holes into the frame and then your angles might be off. Even though the z frame is similar. So it might work.

If anything brackets would be the way to go but I'm not sure how it'd look. I mean tri-z shrouds are side mounted anyways. Not tank mounted like a 200x. I'd give it a try if it were mine. It would really set the look of a blaster/tri-z child.

Been begging the wife to let me buy a Blaster and a first generation X and slide the motor into the X frame... my dream Trike!!!!

I put one in a trimoto 125 with a 175 front end, it was fast but with no rear suspension it wasn't the greatest, I think the blaster motor would be perfect in a 200x

Friend of mine has acquired a very interesting set up. Let's see if i can get this right..

YT175.. originally.

YT tranny and cases. Blaster 57mm crank, Blaster 240 big bore kit, blaster flywheel/machined for pull start. YT175 bassani pipe. Blaster ignition.

5 speed auto clutch 240cc Trimoto.


I've been wanting to place a Blaster motor and swing arm in a YT175 for some time. With the motor and the swing arm bolting up to each other.. chain alignment, can't mess up!. The kicker to this, is the kicker. But if the flywheel can be machined(drilled and tapped) to accept a pull start, then why not? A 200x would be a better starting place.
