I know the 83-85x forks are smaller diameter.

IDK if all the Z's were 39MM but the 85/86 Honda 250R fork is 39MM's.

I know nothing else that is involved.

You guys determined to keep our dinosaurs ought to be hopping on the NOS forks on EBAY for about 400$ with boots,clamps,axle and collars.

They use to run 700$ or better.

The "X's" are 33mm. Same as a n early 2000's kx65, which I am mounting as soon as I can find someone to make me an axle.

85 tri z fork tubes are smaller than 86, i think 35mm or maybe 36mm.... i've got 85 forks on mine i will measure and post back soon.

confirmed, 85 tri z forks are 35mm.

I'm sure you know that they made an 85.5 Z too. Mosh or Raffa would know the size of that model.....

^^ pretty sure 85.5 is the same as 85, but yes those guys can confirm.

The "85.5 model" doesn't actually exist as a separate model, and was something that originated on the forums. You'll not find an OEM parts listing for an "85.5". The only thing that differentiates a late model 85 from an early model 85 is color scheme.

Yes all 85's were 35mm..Same as 350X and some 200x's?..
The 86 was 39mm like 3rd gen 250R's. I have heard of guys boring 85 Z tripples out to accept the R forks and swaping the whole front end over.There is a host of benefits to this including an 11 inch front rim and now 10 inch rims, and superior braking system and suspension. However, the 85 Z had way more increased rake that was reduced with the 86 tripples. I would "think' IMO, for handling purposes in my experience with the Z, that the 86 tripples combined with the 250R front end may yield better handling characteristics. They don't push as much in the turns with the reduced rake of the 86 Tripples. IMO even the 86 Z forks allthough improved, were not as great in suspension as the 250R forks were stock for stock.
