I looked into this and the mod will be so much you might as well put a cr480 motor in it but if you did make it work you could still enter the mod class in drag racing where you would be in the open class with a cr 480 motor. I got a 480 cylinder and head if you want to give it a go. It will have to have a custom stroked crankshaft I bet.

There are 1st gen R's 81-82, with a 480 motor installed, one is owned by bigbore, and there were custom motor mounts for sale also, so you could bolt the motor right in. I have not seen any 2nd gen 83-84R's with the 480, but Im sure it is possible, as they are much similar to the first gen. What year is yours?

My 82R had an 83R motor in it, everything fit and worked. So, if a CR480 motor goes into a first gen frame it should work fine in a 2nd gen frame

it may fit in both 1st and 2nd gen R's but the motor mounts are needed for it to mount in there right. I like this swap ! I keep looking at the 480 swapped 200X that is around here somewhere; owner just modified the down tube from the steering stem to allow for the exhaust pipe. I have no idea what else was done to make a light little 200x frame accept a cr480 motor though. I like the concept of sticking a cr480 motor in an aircooler though! probably some good info on this swap over on airfoolers.com

The only difference between the 81/82 motors and the 83/84 motors are the shift shaft. The shift shaft is longer on the first gens.

My cousin out a yzf500 or something in a Banshee. Super fast, but can't keep the front end on the ground. I guess an extended swingarm would fix that though huh

Yup! forgot to mention that. It came with an 82 parts motor with a shift shaft in it. 82 shafts fit 83 motors luckily
