Had this thread started last night but storms raised cain with computer so I will try it again.
Lot of members reproduction parts on this build.
Mike from HRE is putting the finishing touches on a handcrafted alu gas tank for me to complete the build.
There are a bunch of little things I want to change already (more nickle chrome mainly) but that will wait for time being. Looking forward to getting it dialed in and putting the paddle tires on for some sand cruising at Silver Lake this fall.
The Mrs. has me starting on a down stairs bathroom renovation so the black Tecate will hafta sit covered for awhile.
The green 101 Tecate will be this winters project. It was given to me by Sandpuppy101 shortly before he passed away.

Thanks for looking ! john

Tonight I have officially mothballed the Black Tecate build until spring of next year. I have no desire to stick a red tank on it for tuning and sand riding, for me, is just not gonna happen now ~ dam sure NOT with a red tank. Hopefully, I will have my bought and paid for tank by spring of 2013 :wondering
So in preparation of a upcoming mold project, the Bigred will take the Tecates work station. http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/148252-ATC-speedo-drive-(transmission)-unit(s)-reproduction

Trying very hard to control tongue with this HRE situation, I will keep biting it a little bit longer.

I love black builds and that tank looks great!!

A little off topic:

Got any pics of the lift without a wheeler on it? Where did you get it and how much was it? If you want to PM the info so as not to derail your build thread that's OK

No problem Scoot ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBYA5zSpxyo
I put the u-tube vid up the night we got it from Ditchmud. It took a wee bit of thought how to get it too perform like we wanted.
Rich acquired it from a family member who works in a old folks home and it is from a easy lift/recliner type of chair. The kind that lifts and tilts forward to assist in handicap/elderly/recovering people in sitting down or getting up from chair.
Ditchmud was kind enough to think of me when his nephew come across it and snatched it up for me. So keep a eye open for a inexpensive/free easy lift chair. It stows away on a hook in wall wonderfully.

Decided to get the Black build out from corner of storage and see if it worked. Just about a year ago all I had to do was add oil, water + gas but simply rolled in the corner of storage area and forgot about it.
Last Sunday I rolled it out + added fluids,,, kicked it over way to many times, had the Mrs. pull me around with the Bigred only to discover it was not getting fuel thru the brand new never used carb.
Not sure whats up with that carb. Rolled another stock Tecate out that has not been started in 2 years + fuel smelled worse then a bad fart but it started on 2nd. kick and idled.
Took that carb off and bolted on my Black Tecate and had a short test ride on it.
While the Mrs. was pulling me around the yard I discovered the engine must have had some work done to it compression wise because I could barely get it to turn over in 5th. gear plus it has a slow drip from case centers,,,,
So I decided to pull the motor from the stocker, sand blasted it and freshened up the paint. This afternoon I swapped out nickel chromed bolts from the motor I did not much care for into the stocker.
Decided to have a look at the flywheel and was totally amazed it run. Swapped that crusty one out for one of my encapsulated flywheels (after cleaning up the coils).
I suppose I will be test riding the Black Tecate again tomorrow once I get the engine re-installed.

lookin good. I have that same problem. Life got in the way a couple yrs ago and my X got pushed into a corner. 2 weeks ago, I started draggin it out to finish and the gas tank is full of rust and varnish now from where I forgot to drain it, pcs. are missing from where I "borrowed" stuff for other stuff, and I had forgot about a bunch of little things I hadn`t wrapped up yet and I have two others in similar shape to get ready for TF. Not much time left!

I`m still in for an A1-A2 flywheel and I really like the green intake rubber (incorrect term, I`m sure) manifold. I suppose that's your product as well? Nice!

looking great John, looks like a silverlake trip is in order now

jeswinehart
05-25-2014, 08:41 PM
Yes, a Silver Lake trip (or two) should be in our plans this year !
I tinkered around most of the day on the engine install and got it running but definitely need some different jets then the stock sizes.
I lost my whole container of carb parts last year (maybe why I put it in the corner last year ?) , there was a kings ransom of jets/carb parts :( ,,,, time to order more.

How much tinkering did you end up doing John? Did you ever get any good ride time ? I ended up getting the other tank from kevin and the first thing I noticed was there is no hole in the rubber gasket under the cap to let the tank breathe. A simple fix but would make tuning nearly impossible.

jeswinehart
01-06-2015, 09:28 PM
Yes I did end up putting about 2 hours of riding around the neighborhood on the Black Tecate.
As I recall the gas tank cap had just a piece of flat rubber in it and I swapped it out for a stock tecate rubber gasket/insert I had on hand. So that really never gave me any problems since I done that long before putting fuel in the tank. Can't recall if it had a vent hole or not on the rubber flat gasket that the tank came with,,,
After a couple of hours on it I just drained all fluids again and rolled it back into its corner cause I was on the hunt for a quad to convert for a daily rider to replace the Bigred.

Congrats on the score Ben ! Will it be at TF2015 ???

I wouldn't miss it.(tf) I only mentioned it because I would hate to see you dicker around with it forever only to learn the tank was vapor locked. The trike I am building has no purpose at haspin so it probably won't be there. It will be at pine lake in July though.
