I bought this 86 250R in November 2011. The trike is a survivor, pretty much all original. After a 3 day ride in May of this year, I decided to restore it.
Here are some pics before I tore it down. This is the San Rafael Swell in Utah.

Can't tell from those pics obviously,,but That looks like one to "clean up" rather than tear down. Nice machine for sure.

It looked very nice to begin with. I guess if your gonna redo one it would be nice to start with a really clean one but they're only original once. Nice build keep up the good work.

I will polish the plastic later...It takes alot of time and i plan to ride it for now.
The Swingarm is Duplicolor 1604 Universal Gold. IMO, it's not that close to original but it looks ok and can be found everywhere.
The brackets are Zinc plated.

Very, very nice! How was the break in? Good to go?

The break in went well with no drama...
At the first fire, the idle smoked more than I'm used to, but that was apparently the rings because at the end it was tight with no smoke to speak of.
FWIW, I used the "ride it like you stole it" break in method.
