ok i double posted on accident last time so i guess both posts were deleted so i will try again. i picked up a 1980 90 this weekend and tried to start it and it kept jerking the pullstart back. so i decided to check the points and cam timing and found the cam chain is extremely loose and was wondering if there is any way to tighten it without pulling the top end off. also i found the t and f marks but i dont see any markings to line them up with. can somebody tell me where its at. thanks paul

get yourself a workshop manual, it'll tell you how to tighten the cam chain.
I can tell you but I dunno if you'll understand.
Underneath there is a bolt that looks like a sump plug but it is on an angle, take this out and I think there is a thing underneath it with a screwdriver slot in it, screw this out and there should be a spring and stuff, if the spring is broke then there is your problem, if it isn't put it back in but take it in further than it was, see if the chain gets any tighter.

To tighten the cam chain remove the cap that looks to be about 17mm on the bottom of the engine. It is on the same side as the recoil. Under that cap there is an adjustment screw. With the engine warm and running turn the screw clockwise until the cam is tight and it makes a slight noise, then back it out like 1 to 1 1/2 turns and put the cap back on. I have the exact instructions in my clymer at home but that is the jist of it. I just did it last week on mine.

ok i might be doing this wrong but i took the bolt the is on the bottom of the engine it points toward the front of the engine it was a 9/16 bolt i unscrewed with a flat head and behind that were 2 springs one was a little longer than the other so i put them back in and tightened the screw all the way down and the chain is still extremely loose. you can spin the rotor almost a half turn back and forth before the chain moves

how hard would it be to put a 110 cdi engine in this 90 points frame

I can scan you a few pages from my clymer manual that have to do with the 110 cam chain and adjustment. if you have it tightened all the way and its that loose something may have popped under the left side engine cover. i can include that stuff. Send my your email.
