Hey All...

I've had work done on my '86 Tri z and just got her buttoned up again. Here is what was done:

- new piston, cylinder bore...
- porting
- head mods
- Phase I wrench report header pipe mod
- new crank bearings, seals...
- clamp on UNI filter...

I am still running the stock carb with the stock jetting. I started the bike up for about 3 minutes and then turned it off. It felt like it was running very rich...or maybe misfiring. Smoking a lot, tons of black ooze coming out around the exhaust flange.

Something tells me she's lean based on what I would suspect and this is not letting her burn all the fuel. She has some trouble idling down as well.

Any ball park on jetting from here? (for now its totally stock '86 Z).

I might move to a bigger Mikuni...but nothing beyond a 34 or 36mm.

So where would you guys start jetting wise? I am in Texas BTW.

Thanks man!!

36 or 38mm?

Was thinking a 36 would help keep the bottom end as strong as possible.

I used a 38 on my all stock ATC 250R it added power everywhere. It always ran good too. Never had to adjust idle or air screw to keep it running from day to day. Start and ride. Im just not sure how a 38 will all fit in the boots. On a 250R I use a 39 with no machining just alittle grease. Got mine from BDT. Dont forget the cable too.

what ever you can afford they all will work great! 36,38,39.... you will have to heat the boot for a 39 .. but it fits!
