Hi all! Seems like it's been a long time since I've been here. Other things have kept me away from my favorite hobby. Most of it is not having any money, and these forums always end up costing me money!

My son took the ATC70 out for a spin around the yard yesterday, and decided its hard starting issue needed to be dealt with. I could use some guidance on what to do to fix it.

Its got an aftermarket ebay carb on it. No matter what the temperature is outside, when the engine is cold, it must be choked to start, and then I have to open the choke in very tiny increments over about 5 minutes to keep it running. Once warm, it runs just fine. I'm far from a carb expert, but my feeling here is that the pilot jet is too small. Does that sound right?

Stock air box or open filter ? Stock carbs like alot of intake back pressure !!!

Stock air filter. Not sure if there's any leaks in the boot though. That could cause it too, couldn't it?

YES is needs a little more back pressure if your needing to choke it . Check the filter set up good and if that doesnt work make sure the idle jet is clean .

My original line of thinking was that these aftermarket carbs don't always have the same jet sizes. Maybe after checking the air filter tonight (it's too bloody hot to go out to the garage until dark), I will pull the carb apart and check the jet sizes that are installed.
