Ok folks,
I have been toying with the idea for a while now about getting a 200x to keep my 81 250r company in the garage. I wanted to get a somewhat fast 4 stroke, so was thinking the 350x or 200x as a suitable pick. finding a cheap 350x is proving to be a bit hard, but i have found a couple 200's near by and am thinking about moving on one. so whats everyone think of the 200x hows it ride?

Full suspension, clutch, 45-50mph. Numerous parts (OEM) for the first gen (83. First -85). Second gen (86-87), the benefit is you get six gears instead of five, but parts are harder to find and not much for second gen in the aftermarket parts category. They are great all around bikes!

I don't think you will be unhappy with the 200x its an easier ride... if you get that itch for speed just jump on the 250r and pin it.

I called the guy, it needs brake work. can do that with my eyes closed, but also it needs the kick starter clutch.. does the case need to be split to replace that? or is it just like my R where one just has to remove the cover? oh yeah and its an 84...

one other thing.. looks alot like the 175 / 185 motor.. is it based on that?

No such thing as a kicker clutch. It will need the cases split,,all the way down, You will then need to backcut the kicker gears,or find an update kit. Which are Very hard to find. You will also have to shim and stretch your spring unless you can get ahold of an updated spring.. Top ends are very similar to 185 and 200 pullstarts. Honda didn't make a 175 ATC.

i know.. but they did make the 185s which i know was based on the 175.. i had one in a 73 xl175.. doggy to say the least.. so split the case eh? bugger.. hmm, i don't wanna rebuild it.. i just wanna ride it.. there's always push starting lol

The 86/87 200X rides great and has many differences than the 85.

The 83-85 have allot more parts but just the kicker alone would drive me nuts.

I have an 85 200x and really enjoy it, super fun in the woods, very easy to ride, lightweight, disk breaks and manual shift. They are easy to work on and parts are easy to find normally. Its not an R or 350x but it really is a fun bike

i prefere 83-85's. 2nd gens are great but harder to find parts. if done right a little 200x can be a fun machine. i owned many xr200 dirtbikes which use the same motor basicly....i use to ride 250 2 strokes before going to the little thumpers. road the smaller machines and beat them harder then anything large...but then im im smaller lighter rider.

1st gen has kicker issues, can be fixed, besides that most people have wasted axle which are hard to find now but there are options to fix that also. give it good suspension its a fun machine. im building one with 10" of suspen travel.

watch for frames braken or welded around the front motor down tube. thats the weekest area on a 200x, id at least gusset any stock frame due to them being old and thin tubed. theres a bunch of us on here who like them...we are the ones to spend too much money on them lol
