Yamaha newb ytm 200k valve question??

I need a little help with my 1983 YTM 200k. my motors noisy and i have a feeler gauge but never used it before. Need some help adjusting the valves and timing. Do you have to take off a cap to get to the adjustment and do i need to have the piston in the up position first? Anything else i should know? Thanks

Need a little simple advise to get the basics to adjusting my engine to spec??

It's not hard on these. The service manual link is broken otherwise I'd end you there. So bring the cylinder to top dead center, both rocker arms will be loose when the piston is at tdc on the compression stroke. From there adjust the valves with a wrench and a screwdriver. Use a 0.004" feeler gauge and do this when the engine is cool.
