I am looking at putting a 90cc Lifan engine in my ATC 70 as the original engine is in a very bad way.
I am battling to find a motor here, but there is one on line supplier here that has a 90cc Lifan semi auto with electric start but the starter is on top of the engine.
Will I be able to modify the intake if the carb touches the tank/frame?

Could I face the carb forwards or would the air filter touch the frame/front fender?

I think it would be a pain trying to ge the carb to clear with the starter on top. I am running Lifan 110cc e start motors in mine, they run great. Not sure about shipping to S.A. But hooper imports has great prices and service here in the states. I will link a thread I posted in with the problems I encountered, and how I got around them in a minute.

Search function is down. I posted in a thread a few weeks ago about 70 engine swaps if you can find it.

I have checked out the Hooper Imports site but shipping was in the region of $1200 if i recall so thats out of the question.

I can't remember where but I saw one with the carb facing the front, and also one with the carb out the side. I would think you could shorten the intake and still have the carb facing the rear.

Re-read his post, he is looking at a electric start motor with the starter positioned on top of the motor. This is right where the carb ends up with the short intake.

I ran mine out the side, I had to use an intake adapter http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carburetor-Manifold-Intake-Adapter-XR-CRF50-50-70-110-125cc-pit-dirt-bike-ATVs-/170866083849?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item27c8698809 because I had the wrong intake, so it was the easiest way to do it. I like the way it looks, but it does interfere with my shin at times.

Is that a 125 in your 70, I see you are using the orignal thumb throttle, does it work okay?(I have seen some posts where the guys reckon it doesn't have enough stroke)

Yep, it's a 125, and the throttle works fine. Mine is actually from a 110, I think, as there is no on/off switch. I used to have a 350x thumb throttle on it too... you can get the cable ends from dratv and make it any length you want.

Thanks for the link, i have been looking at some of those adapters on eBay but I hadn't found one that cheap.
