Hey ya'll, I found an 85 Honda ATC 250ES Big Red sitting in somebodies yard. The frame is in good shape, plastic tank clean on inside, good compression, no key, the rear fenders are cracked, Dirt Devils (about 75% tread left) on the rear, and the front tire is no good. Everything is there. I offered the lady $200, but she said her son probably wouldn't take that. I can't say that it runs, but from experience I would bet a plug and carb cleaning would do the trick. I just don't know anything about these bikes (i.e. how hard they are to find and what they go for in decent shape). Sorry I don't have any pics, but what kinda chance would you guys take on a bike that fit this description? Or if it is easier to say, what would ya'll pay if it was running? I know it's a shot in the dark with no pic, but just looking for a ballpark figure. Any decent guesstimate would do.

Thanks

I paid 150$ for my big red that was complete but had the motor all torn apart. id say its worth 300$ tops if it has good compression and spark.

Thanks for the input. Trikes seem to go for a little more around here. Around here everybody hunts and mud rides. If they already own it they think it's worth a million bucks, but if they are trying to buy it they don't want to spend nothing. I pointed out everything that was wrong with it in hopes of getting her to bite but it didn't work. Must be sentimental or something lol. It was kinda funny because they've got all these super nice fourwheelers and buggies and a CJ7, but this poor old trike was just sitting there in the rain. I found a tarp and covered it up good and told her I'd stop back by in a year or so and see if she changed her mind. I've watched it sit for 2 years now as it is.

IMHO, your offer of $200 as it sits now was pretty fair, if not generous.

Maybe if you are desperate to own it, inch your way up to $300, but absolutely don't go beyond that.

Yea, I thought so too, but she kinda acted like I low-balled her. I probably won't offer her anymore since it's obviously not a hard to find trike or anything. I actually stay away from shaft-driven and electric start trikes, just because it is more stuff to screw up you know.

The best 3 wheeler ever made for anything but race ,IMHO. I love them. Brakes, cables, bearings are ALL readily available and cheap. your offer was spot on for her and you , very fair. , I'm with Ridered 100% ,,ease up a LITTLE if you have too,,but worth owning,,especially w the plastic tank. Clean the carb and fresh fuell,it will probably be purring. Good luck!
