A friend told me about these today so I picked em up after work. The one with tank decals is a 1980. The one with out decals is a 1979. The 79 runs. Put em both in my Ford Focus! They need tires but I have plenty. I paid $200 for the pair which I thought was a great price. Here are some pics. Check out that sweet decal on back of the 79, anyone know where I can get a new one of those or where I can get that put on a baby shirt? Lol.

I've had a lot of bikes in that Focus! Haha
The 79 starts, runs and idles perfect. It also had lights at one point. All wiring and the remnants of a tail light are still there.

Bit of an update on this one. The 1979 started and ran great but the rear tires were blown. I picked up a pair of new Aero Trak tires for $18.75 each shipped. I had never ridden the bike but upon doing so the transmission was jumping in first gear. I checked out the shift drum stopper, it was good. So then I decided to get the 1980 running. The 1980 was missing the stator, flywheel and pull starter. I had that stuff laying around in spare parts so I swapped it over and fired it up. Both engines run great, quite, and no smoke. The rear axle on this was was also locked up so I pulled it all apart. It was just the brake shoes had fallen apart. I also found what looks like a brand new rear axle and hubs, you can still see all the machine work in the spines.
At that point I decided to swap engines. I wanted to get the 79 going since it would be the only running ATC from the 70's I have. I do have another 1979 that needs work, I also had a 1972 US90 at one point. And I am also a 1979. lol. So I swapped the engine over and its running and operating perfectly. For some reason I love this 1979. Its my only running 3 speed, all the rest that run are 4 speeds. It runs absolutely perfect and it quite the wheelie machine. lol.
Then yesterday I picked up a complete 1981 ATC70 engine off craigslist for $50! It has the carb, side cover, pull starter and the rubber cover for the clutch adjusting nut. It looks to be a 3 speed engine with the fat pull start and steel flywheel. I'm guessing 1981 was the only year for that combo, I did not know they even came like that. The guy pulled this out of his ATC70 for a Lifan swap. He said it felt like it was low on compession and the pull starter would not retract on its own. He was bummed about the pull stater because he saw what they bring on ebay and would have sold it there. Lucky for me. The hook on the end of the return spring was broken off. I've fixed a bunch of those. Just heat the end of the spring up red and bend a new hook on it. It's working perfectly now, and it has plenty of compression, I guess this guy wasn't familar with how pull starting an ATC70 is supposed to feel. I'm anticipating this being a good engine for the 1980.
Pic of the new looking axle.

Pic of the 1979 running new new rear tires and a little paint, other than that it's how I bought it.

I know right, I'll have under $300 in a pair of running and riding ATC70's. Plus a third engine that runs but has a transmission problem.

It seems like I hear a lot of that on here. I got this pair on St. Louis craigslist. As soon as I swap that engine into the 1980 I will have 5 that run and ride. No cracks in any plastics, nice neats, good tires and brakes etc. I have less than $150 in each of them. They aren't for sale but for $500 you could take your pick!

I bought the bumper sticker on here from tatool if i remember right. There is a pair on feebay as well....http://www.ebay.com/itm/360466976599?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Your going to need to build a bigger shed for all of these bikes....Your list keeps getting bigger and bigger. What is the secret to your wife? Mine at least rolls her eyes when I drag another machine home.

Well I was on a motorcycle when I met my wife and I've been buying and selling bunches of them the whole time since we met. So I'm the same as I've always been, I guess she's used to it! lol. I've got a bunch more bikes that aren't even in my list too! Namely a 1982 ATC200 (first 3-wheeler I bought with my own money) and a 1976 MT125 Elsinore (first dirt bike I bought with my own money), both are pretty decent too. Then my brother and I bought a trailer load of 22 ATC parts bikes around 2005- sounds like you! And I also have a 1993 Yamaha Moto 4 350 with a bad ring and pinion. Probably more I'm forgetting too. lol.
Yeah I'm running low on room but figure thats a good limit for me, I figure theres no need to have even more storage space. I sold my TRI-Z a few months back and I kind of regret it now. Oh well. I've got a list of about 10 or more bikes I wish I still had.

Sold your tri-Z?? You better get a few chances to get the raffle trike.....I got a few but after seeing fresh pics tonight, I may have to get a few more.
Nice pickup Ryan There was two 73-74's on a Missouri craigslist recently for a decent price. One of them had a bunch of chrome parts like forks and side covers. I'll try and dig it up. I always liked the first gen 70's as well. I would love a TRX 70 for my daughter so if you come across one and you don't buy it pass it my way if you don't mind.
Here they are:http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/mcy/3069658023.html

I would be interested in a pair of 73/74's for sure, let me know if you can find them. Ill let you know if I find anymore TRX70s, I don't need anymore. I've seen some decent ones on stl craigslist for cheap in the last few months. I do know where you can get an 82 ATC70, ran but the guy pulled the engine to do a resto then lost interest. Good gas tank, pull starter and tires. $175. Its in Jeffco.

That's interesting and would really round out my 70 collection. Ill sleep on it. And I am off work tomorrow. I probably shouldn't though! I do know both will fit in my Focus!
I would definitely be interested in that 82. BTW that link for the first gens are in the post above yours.
