Have to dig through my box of specialty tools and noticed one socket missing...

What size socket is the the steering stem cap nut, the one above the lock nut some call it the finish nut, on the Honda ATC's? I think all of them are the same. Was going to pull and regrease my steering stem bearings this weekend, still tight but getting noisy. I have the spanner wrench for the stem lock nut but i can't locate my large socket for the cap nut that has to come off before it.

Was is 30mm or 32mm?? Dang this old age syndrome!

You guys must be pros... I use the tip of a giant crescent wrench with a screw driver through the hole for torque

Thanks! I knew it was one of the two. I don't own many large sockets so i keep them in a separate box and i knew one was missing! I will pick up another 30mm socket before the weekend, only like $8 at the local farm supply store.

Is that a Metric crescent wrench? HA!

Not to get to off topic or hijack your thread, but i having been searching in vain for the steering stem adjusting socket for my 86 250r. it came loose and destroyed by bearings and races. Do you know where to get one?
Thanks, Marc

Is that a Metric crescent wrench? HA!

At one place I worked I was wrenching on a machine and had a guy helping me. I decided to mess with him and so I told him to hand me a metric cresent wrench. He handed the one to me. I noticed the side that had the standard writing on it was up ( cresent wrenches say metric on one side and standard on the other ). I told him that was the wrong one, I needed one that was metric. I kid you not he looked through 4 tool boxes before he found one with the metric was up. Once he found out the joke he was PISSED!!! The guy was so pissed at the time he tried to get me fired.
Our boss about blew coffee through his nose when the guy told him what happened ( The boss later told me that was a Good one he will use some day ).

I did learn this one guy didn't have any sence of humor at all.

This is what i use. It works great, cheap, easy to use, etc. Yeah its not a socket but i don't like a socket for these anyway, its not like you torque them down you just preload the bearings and do it to feel, at least thats how i do them. So the wrench works great. I was going to have a local shop stamp a 3/8" square hole in the center so i could put a breaker bar on it if needed but i haven't come across one too tight to get by hand with this wrench yet.
