I may give it a try. I just messed up my cdi base. Screw was in so well it literally came out with the base's threads on it.

Most float bowls you can use a longer bolt and nut the top .

I have used a heli coil on carb float bowls myself. I had great results; I believe they are 4mm diameter screws which I replaced the SS allen bolt. You have to go a bit easy on them or you'll strip more......

Yep,lil stove bolt and nut.. I've also seen more than a few sealed perfectly for years on end with only 3 screws holding them.

Kinda of limited to fixes,it isa FCR carb. The damaged hole is near the accellerator pump.It isn't a through hole.Don't think there is enough material for a heli coil.

There should be, the rule of thumb is normally Diameter x 2 or 8MM in your case.

I used some jb weld in a stripped hole once. It worked, but i didn't put much torque on the bolt. The gas might break it down, also.

I have fixed stuff like that many times, i just grab my tap and die set and go one size bigger! A set of numbered and lettered bits along with a tap set is your best friend for repairs in aluminum. Just go slow and tap 1/2 to one turn at a time then back off to remove the chips and then go in a bit further and repeat, time and patience will give a good result.
Also if its a through hole i use Nutserts, pop one in from the other side of the hole, for a carb bowl i would put it in from the top, this way the nutserts lip is on the top of the carb and the screw coming in from the bottom makes a nice pinched connection that can't pull out.

OK, I told you what will fix it. You will not be disappointed....
Yes, buying the kit stinks but I usually just buy the tap, (have the drill on hand) a few coils, and wind it in with a small screwdriver. Snap off the tong and your done.
JB weld has never been my friend aside from being 10 miles away from my truck.
Yes you can go up a size which may be 5MM ore 10-32 which you can also buy allen head screws for............

Got looking at things earlier and decided on a helicoil.I am not a fan of epoxy or JB Weld either.Only like you stated for a quick fix.Going to look at work tommrow for a helicoil. If it was a through hole things we be easier.I'll let you know how the carb works after some more break in time.
