I picked this up a couple months ago. Other than a broken frame and it smoking like a stack, it was in pretty decent shape. I couldn't stand the smoke so I took it to a friend of mine to rebuild the motor for me, while I did some work on the rest. It is just going to be a trail rider so I'm not getting too carried away with the refurb.

I welded up the frame and added some gussets and added some sunrise red.

I put new bearings and seals in the front hub, installed new fork boots, and started the assembly last night.

Well, It was broken along the bottom and up by the motor mount so I wanted to put a piece all the way across, hoping that would fix it for good. Plus, it was the only piece of metal that my nieghbor had lying around in his shop, ha.

Put my new seat cover on last week. I really like the 87 ATC 200X style logo on it.

Thanx!! I didn't change the fork seals. I probably should have but they looked OK when I put the fork boots on, plus that was above my knowledge line as far as how to do it.

Those are OE Honda fork boots aren't they? I need to buy some OE boots for mine but I just can't justify the cost.

Yes they are. I found them at this link for $30.78 each, which was cheaper than Ebay:

THANX!! I got it from Hidden Comfort Camo & Seating. They sell a lot of covers on ebay but didn't have this style, so I sent them a picture of the 87 logo and they made it for me. Here is thier website:

http://hccamo.com/ I was just at the guys house (Hidden comfort camo) a few days ago to pick up a Tri-Z that I traded my 200X for. Great guy and does great work and has a sweet trike collection. He has a 350X frame that is extended in the front and is supposidly rare but I know nothing about it. Sorry to jack your thread and the X looks bad azz so far.

It is Rust-Oleum gloss sunrise red. It was a perfect match to the factory color. I put a piece of tape over the model/year decal and when I pulled it off the only diffrence I could tell in the color was that the original 27 year old paint was not as glossy, and according to the Army, I am NOT color blind, LOL.

All ready for the motor!! I'm as excited as I was 35 years ago when I got my first used US90. P.S. My daughter is working on her modeling skills;...Yes, I am an "older" father:

That's a sweet looking X you have there...any idea how the previous owner managed to break the frame?

OK I ahve to ask, How much was the bike when you bought it? Seems like other then the obvous work to repair the neglect you'll have an awsome bike.

Thank You!! That is a good question on the frame. Since it was broken in two places I can only guess he was doing some serious jumping with it. The crack by the motor mount had been welded (not such a good job either) but the one on the bottom only had a tack weld on it, because in order to properly repair it, I had to remove the swing arm, so I guess whoever repaired it didn't want to take the time to do that.

I paid $1k for it. It had a new Clarke tank on it, and new scoops and front fender, so along with that and the new handle bars, I figured those parts alone would have cost close to $400, so I felt like I got a good deal. Not a steal, but I am happy.

Finally got it back from my buddies house yesterday. It took a little longer than he thought due to the machine shop and the head. Runs great though, and no leaks or smoke. Rode for a couple hours yesterday doing a little break-in. Still have some cosmetic things I want to do with it in the future, but for now it is ride, ride, ride!!

I put that same cover on the 350x I did last year..I really liked it. Has a nice texture for grip but cleans easily with soap and water and a brush when it get dirt ground into it.
