My shifter is striped, and I dont know what to do to fix it. I dont really want to buy a new one. Someone told me to try and put sandpaper in there, and then tighten it. Someone else told me to weld it on, which wouldnt be such a good idea. Anyone here have this problem? Let me know what has worked for you. Thanx again. )

The shaft is striped on the front part, and the shifter is also stripped, and wont grab. roll Any other ideas?

aside from the daunting task of cuting keyways in the parts nope no ideas
as for keyways u might be able to put the lever on where you want it and take a drill and dril a hole through the lever and shaft and use a tiny bolt or shear pin to put through
or you could take ane drill in on the end on the joint around the shaft with a 1/8th bit (with the lever bolt slack) put in a 1/8 or wedge a 5/32 rod in and tighten it up

Or, take the shifter lever off, take the bolt completely out, use a hacksaw to cut a chunk out so it'll tighten more on the shaft. This worked on my Tri-Z. The shaft was completely rounded and so was the inside of the lever so this should work for you.

THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND THIS IS WHAT I DID AND IT WORKED FOR A WHILE, LIKE 2 MONTHS TAKE A GRINDER AND WHERE THE BOLT CRIMPS THE SHIFTER DOWN...GRIND LIKE A 1/8 OR 1/4 INCH GAP AND RE-CLAMP IT DOWN TIGHT WITH A NUT ON THE OTHER SIDE IF IT WILL FIT UNTILL YOU CAN BUY A NEW SHIFTER :D did it in caps so you would read it cus it worked for me ;)

tecate if you type another post in caps it WILL be removed from view.
anyways an easy way to fix a stripped shifter is to just weld it on. then when you get the parts to fix it just grind off the weld. i know this is about the most redneck way you can do something but it works for a quick fix.

Put the shifter on the shaft and tighten it up (Make sure its in the place where you want it to go). thake a 5mm drill bit and drill a hole in the side. (half on the shaft and half on the shifter) then tapper it for a 10MM BOLT. Then screw in the 10mm bolt and do the normal one up as tight as possible. The bolt you tapered for will hold it in place and this will last a while.
PM me if you dont understand and need a diagram ;)

like alreadt said the best easy fix untill u get new parts is to weld it the only thing is dont get the shaft to hot when welding other wise you will melt your oil seal i have done this in the past for a quick fix and it works very well for a quick fix untill you get the new parts. also replacing the shift shaft isnt hard at all atleast on my old yz250 it wasnt.

take a hacksaw and cut a small peice, thats your best bet. welding it or drilling it is just plain ol crazy , you will regret it later. if all else fails get a new lever. good luck!!!!!

I did the hacksaw thing, bolted it on, and now it shifts great! I hope it holds out for a while. This was the shifter on my tecate. I got to try my tecate in the snow today. We just had our first good snowfall last night, and it hasnt stopped yet. There are about 6 inches or more on the ground right now. I couldnt believe how fun it was driving the tecate in the snow. It really could get through some deep drifts, and spinning cookies in 3rd gear was just a blast. Cant wait to get it out on the lakes and creeks when they freeze over. Once again, thanx guys for the awsome advice and tips. 8)
