I have an 83 honda atc200. Mostly stock except for a rear rack put on before I bought it. I have changed out the entire rear end due to the hubs being welded on the axle. Not my doing either. I have adjusted the rear brakes till they are almost constantly rubbing but the brakes are still very weak. They will slow me down but not as fast as I would expect they would. I have ajusted the leaver on the rear end and new shoes, but still not very strong brakes. Anything else I'm missing here?

My next thing was going to spin it on a lathe and emory cloth and scotchbrite the liner.

Are they spotless? No wear? sometimes the cable stretches and you have to "move" a spline on the arm itself. Meaning, ignore the fact or dot or setting they advise.
I am not familiar with your model as far as how your linkages are set up. Just throwing some thoughts at you..................
Sometimes they get contaminated and will never have the stopping power you want. Good luck!

Shoes are new and drum was used. I should have cleaned the drum better I guess. I did move the control arm on the brake its self. I will pull the drum Sunday and clean it better. Hope fthat helps.

It may be beyond it's tolerances......
While your in there, I always pull out the cam - clean and grease as well as the round lower pivot.
Is this cable activated?

Yes it is a cable brake system. Happen to know the max diameter for an 83 honda 200 rear drum?

I cleaned the shoes and installed another drum. Also used but .065 smaller ID than the last. The brakes are still not very good but ill see if they improve with a little use. At least I can get the hubs off this axle to change out the drum. Anyone have a new rear drum for an 83 honda 200? Just a 200 not a m,s, es or anything fancy. Still looking for a better seat as well for same trike.
