So my second new ricky stator crap out on me after about 2 or 3 weeks of weekend riding.. same as last one bottom ignition coil is black.147185ugh idk if im going to keep buying these things. Going to call them Monday and figure out whats up. Are there any other stator options other than ricks or pvl? Any one go through this or maybe have any guesses why its crapping out? Ive had electrical problems in past but i thought i had them figured, by buying all new trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro!!!!:mad: Currently I do not have the lights hooked up and I have a knock off kill switch. Are the kx ignitions any better? Headlight isn't important to me. I'm real close to calling it quits and parting her out.

I've heard the ricky stator's are real hit and miss. If you don't need a light, the KX stator sounds like the way to go.

I think that moose got into the stator making for the Tecates. A pvl is also another good choice, seeing that it replaces all the electronics, so the overall cost isn't that bad.

I went through 4 or 5 rickys i 1 year. I feel they are junk. Picked up a new pvl and have had no problems. I put a kx set up on my other tecate and again no problems. Pvl is the way to go if you cant find a good kx set up. You need to make sure your water tight in that area. I have a new moose stator for the kx ignition for a back up. Hopefully i will never need it now tht i picked up another oem kx stator.

Keep in mind that you get the cdi, coil, stator, and magneto, all new. Not just the stator and magneto

I know it doesn't matter to gage, but with the PVL, you loose your lights, correct?

Yes, the lights are lost, and you also lose them with the kx ignition

If you check out my tecate swap thread I think I mentioned a yz125 ignition coil will work. I think Moose coil are made by Electrex. Would be nice to know who is winding these coils that fail.

But OEM Kawasaki or Yamaha is gonna be better than 2 weeks, you just have to solder it in yourself.

HERE:
New Moose Electrex Ignition Source and Pulser Coils (set of 2) that will fit:

* 81-88 KX80, KX100, KX250
* 86-89 KX500
* 90-91 YZ125
* Set of coils that replaces original set of coils on base plate.

Item # M6882002M0945

RM Stator Inc also states these are the same as above:

Yamaha YZ80 ignition stator coils, 85-00
Part # *RMRSC11/51

So my theory is YZ80 1985-2000 coils will work on T3 stator plate.

I bought a Ricky ingition winding for under $40 and soldered it into my stock stator. Also running the Ricky flywheel. My brother has the same set up. No problems for either of us. Ive had mine since 2008 and he's had his since around 2005.

1. So there's Ricky Stator out of California

2. Rick's Motorsport Electrics out of New Hampshire

3.RM stator out of Quebec Canada.

4.Electrex out of England (which i guess Moose buys from)

5. Electrosport electrical out of Irvine ,CA

There are other choices but who is winding all these? I seem to remember reading ELECTREX has a good reputation.

Is Stator Corp not around anymore? I had a factory one rewound by them, but it's been 10 years ago probably and I think it was $75 plus shipping up and back. They also re-attached magnets onto a stock Tecate flywheel. I'm thinking they were in Millford, Massachusets?

I have nothing but good luck with Ricky Stator and his products out of Santee Ca, but he has now moved to Ramona Ca. I personally met Richard and his wife and they were awesome human beings. Richard helped me with my Banshee and did all the work while I was at baseball game watching Padres play a day game.
All I can say with the 10 years I had on his stator not one problem did I occur with it or any of his billet lights I purchased. but Richard you and your personality are greatly missed and I know if I ever needed anything to this day I can call Mike and he will be there to offer me any help he can.
so it is hard for me to comprehend that Ricky stators stuff is junk, I think you may be confusing and tarnishing his name by comparing him to Rick's Stator. Those are two complete different entities.

Ya the company I bought mine from were off of ebay named ricks.http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-KAWASAKI-TECATE-STATOR-GENERATOR-KXT250-250-84-87-/110876800363?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d0c5b56b&vxp=mtr I didn't know they were different, way separate yourself from the competition ricks ricky!>>? whatever I sold the flywheel last weekend for a $100 and the CDI for $135 so I'm just going to buy the PVL from what looked up they're reliable and top notch. I have a few more parts I'm chunking on there, my extra red fender sold for $75 as well. :D

I have an internal rotor motoplat ignition you could have for a little over half the cost of the pvl
