I found one local to me that looks in good shape, but the seller is stating it has this chronic issue. I've seen the threads but people seem to be all over the place about the fix. Some say shim and stronger spring, some backcut the gears...I'm kinda confused since I have never been inside a 200x engine.

Is it a deal breaker? Is it a 'split the case' repair or easy??

What is the most I should pay for this relatively clean/original machine with this issue?

It is splitting the cases.

Back cutting the gears works, other guys stretch the spring and or use a washer.....

Unless it's real cheap and real nice' I wouldn't want it

You could always find a Goki electric start for it. I think thats the way Im going to go when I start fixing mine up. Save my kick start gears for when the battery goes dead.

2 new ratchet gears and upgraded stronger spring and its fixed forever !!!!
I can do one in about 6 hours .

I don't know if Mike (Shortline10) has any kits left, but he was selling them about a month ago (Ratchets, springs, no backcutting needed)! When I beefed up my 200x I had the gears backcut, installed a stiffer spring and shimmed the ratchet. I examined what the kicker was doing before and then after doing all three upgrades. Its like night and day and now the engine will blow before that kicker gear ever slips, LOL. Its a time-consuming job (unless you are Shortline10 ;)), but I would recommend it anytime you build a 200x motor.

Well I thank you guys for your heads up on the issue with the 200x..in spite of that I bought it.

Here's why!!

It was too damn nice looking/almost all orginal(except exhaust), the seller was too damn eager, and at having taken the time to go look at it and talk him from his original $700 asking to $400.

It just had to follow me home, Bill(atc007) knows what I'm talking about!! Tell me I was wrong!!!

I figure I'll sit on it, make a project of fixing the kick when time allows and have a sweet little 200x for the pack!!

That thing is sweet! Steal at $400 imo even if you do have to tear into the bottom end.

You got that for 400.00? Very nice buy and very clean. If the kicker is the only thing wrong with that bike, you will definitely get your money back should you decide to sell. have fun!

That's a steal for $400!

PS- I have a kit and a clean set of kicker gears left over from my build, if interested.

I just did a 200x build and put a twist on it and so far I hate the thing but am going to give it a bit longer to see if it grows on me, but I give it a slight twist and it just takes off then you grab tighter so you don't fall off and it goes faster lol I almost slammed into my 200m the other day because of the damn thing, it just doesn't feel right on the trike

Well is was US since I found it in Michigan, but the dollar is pretty much at par so it's all the same.

That is the great thing about living in a border city, I can just jump across the river to Michigan to pick up the great deals..

WoW!!!!!!! Smokin deal!!! Heck, Id have paid $700 all day for it , never mind $400!!!! I bought a 250R that had a twist throtle and hated it!!! My brother in law took it off a jump, landed, twisted it even more and the bike took off from underneth him!!!! Needless to say I bought a thumb throtle for it and never looked back! Congrats on a fantastic looking X and havr fun with it!!!

Sorry torque, didn't read your post closely. Not sure what the pipe is, don't know my performance pipes and the stickers are gone.

Pretty noisy and definitely no spark arrestor..has a funky vortex pattern in the baffles inside.

Maybe someone can tell me?

At the risk of showing my ignorance to performance replacement parts...is S&S a good thing?

looks like a bassani with out the end cover. i don't now much about the s&s, but either way will add good power over stock.

I am pretty certain its an old school DG.

Just sold an NOS S&S to 110klt, so I know its not an S&S pipe. By the way, the S&S were a fairly decent pipe back in the day. You just don't see too many of them around.

very nie bike and you got a steal sir! enjoy it!, change the oil and air filter in it while your at it to ensure it stays in good shape. check the brake pads, and sprocket snad chian to see if they need any replacement as it is better to do it now than to ruin a case finding out later. check the bearings as well. the swingarm bearings, and axle bearings. but still enjoy it!
