View Full Version : My 1983 ATC110 Build

Hello,
I've been on here for several months but just became active several weeks ago when my 110 finally ran and drove. So, here is what will be the
build of my 83 Honda ATC110. When I started with this, it was actually an 81 110. My dad did enough to it for it to run for a few months. However,
the motor lost compression and needed to be swapped. When I did that, I used the wiring harness from the 83 parts frame in it, since the original
consisted of wire tape and random wires. After studying the other frame, I determined that the 83 had been parted to build the 81 (why would you
do that?). So, I will be re-building the 83 to what it should be. Here is what is in store: A top end rebuild (smoking issues), correct fender w/110
mudflaps, frame rust removal and coating, wheel respray, handlebar polish, front fork respray, and what ever else I find wrong. Basically, I want a new 83 110, and since I can't buy it, I'll be building it. Anyway, here it is as of yesterday when my mower battery died : http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0016-3.jpg

This is before my dad had done anything to it. This was taken in 2006 (No aging was done, though it does look cool)

That is the only photo of it completed after he built it. After that, there are these, which are progress photos I took when I started working on it.
Where it sat on the side of our barn when we got tired of looking at it in the barn, and needed the space for our 50" cut Dixie Chopper

At some point, something cracked the fender again, which doesn't really matter since this won't be used anyway. With the plastic off :

Expect some progress tomorrow. I am planning on coating the 83 frame, grinding rust out of 83 front fork, and re-spraying wheels.
Hope you enjoy it!

Looks like a good starting point. Love the fork extensions. Is that a 125M tank on it? Keep the pics coming.

It is a 110 tank, but it is currently on the 81 frame. Unfortunately, there will not be any progress today, as me and my dad are going to be moving a shed so we can get a shop built.

Well, I managed to squeeze in an oil change. I am now running Rotella 15w-40 (10w-40 was not available where I went) instead of the mystery sludge.
Unfortunately, even after the seafoam treatment, it still smokes like it always has, so there will be a top end rebuild in this build. Today, I sold a riding mower that had been setting around, so I now have some funds to put into this. I found the 110 mudflaps, and they will be here this weekk, and I am currently working a deal
on a rear fender. That's all for now.

So, I stripped down the 83 frame and found enough time to work with it some. Here is what I started with :
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0055-1.jpg
The front fork (Hoping to squeeze that in later this week)
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0056-1.jpg
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0057-1.jpg
It really wasn't worth taking in progress photos, as you've all seen those, so here's what I ended up with
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0058-1.jpg
I used a frame coating system that I believe is called Rust-Seal, it is designed for automotive applications, and using the etcher included, you can do minimal rust removal to the frame, and then seal it. When I say seal, this stuff is literally as hard as rock. I tried bending the paintbrush after it
dried, and instead the handle started bending. It also has a very high gloss finish
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0060-1.jpg
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0061-1.jpg
Anyway, that's it for now. I will try to strip the fork tomorrow night, and grind the rust out of it, followed with rusty metal primer and sealer. As far as I know, there is still paint left from the tank respray, so I may be able to shoot the fork and re-assemble the frame soon.

Ok, so there hasn't been much progress lately, but I did strip down the front fork today. Also, I have sourcex the correct front fender and missing pieces for the headlight, and I should finalize the deal tomorrow. However, tomorrow is looking like a washout, so there wom't be any updates. I wish I could get more done, but the weather isn't really helping right now. So, maybe next week.

Ok, so I actually did all of this yesterday, but I didn't get around to posting it. So, here we are. I stripped the fork a few days ago
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0066-1.jpg
and I did finally strip it to bare metal and got it in primer.

Also, some random shots of the 81/83 hybrid

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0083.jpg
The mudflaps that I bought are in,and I cleaned them up. They are in decent shape for the price I payed, and actually were easier to find than I had originally
thought. Also, I have sourced a rear fender and trunk lid for it, I will hopefuly get them this week. The fender will need a lot of work, but it's nothing that can't be done. For anyone that is wondering, yes I will be painting the plastic. Using etching primer, I can usually get good adhesion that lasts. That's all for now.
KI4UJO
05-25-2012, 11:25 PM
There will be photos tomorrow. My rear fender has arrived at the Greyhound station (only cheap way to ship it), and I now have the trunk lid. Unfortunately, the deal fell through for the headlight parts / frront fender, so still need to source that.

Can you give me some more details on that coating that you used for the frame??? Would love to know! I was thinking of repainting/coating my racks on my 84 BR and that stuff would be just the ticket! I checked the local auto parts stores but the counter guys gave me a blank stare.

Its called Rust Seal. If you buy what I did, you get a kit that comes with the sealer, a rust etcher, and a cleaner. When used properly, you can etch directly over rust.

So, here we are. I know when I said there was a rear fender arriving you were all expecting a pristene maier repop or a NOS piece, but this is obviously not that. To be exact, most wouldn't use it. But, having autobody experience, I can tell you that this is fixable. Anyway, I went ahead and mounted it on the 81/83 hybrid since I was tired of the rear seat moving in corners. So, here is what I will be working with :
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0085.jpg
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0086.jpg
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0087.jpg
Using the standard method, I got a 110 fender by getting a 125m fender. These are the cracks, and they are just as bad as they look. Hopefully, by the end of this, I can give our community a way to repair plastics that lasts and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0090.jpg
Anway, this is it, mounted. (Yes, I found the 110 mudflaps and storage compartment door in good condition, I'm still not sure how I managed to)

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0094.jpg
After I got it mounted, my dad wanted to give it a spin (I know there's no helmet, this was in a low gear in low range, not very fast at all). It smokes like a 2 stroke!

So, that's all I have today, except for one thing I wanted to tell everyone here, that I think will suprise everyone :
I'm 15.
I usually tell everyone this at the end of a build, but I figured I might as well tell everyone now, and let my build back me up. So, let the ignoring of my advice begin!
As for what the next update should be : I am trying to find a paint in a can close to the 250r gold anodized wheels. I haven't found it yet, and I may just have to get it mixed, and spray with a gun (I wanted to avoid this, as my garage is usually my spray booth, but is full as we are rebuilding a shed, and emptied it out). Also, I am trying to source the front fender, headlight assembly, and a hitch assembly (I'm not just building this to ride for fun, I need something that can work).
That's it for now!

Ok, so today was the last day of this school year, so I decided to start sprayinig my wheels today. I wanted to get them done, but it started raining, so that shut things down. I know 110's didn't come with gold wheels, but I like the look of the anodized 250r wheels, so I went with the closest Rustoleum to the color that Honda used. It came out pretty nice.
When I started

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0003-3.jpg
As you can see, they weren't looking that good. So, I will be using this to refinish them
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0005-3.jpg
I only got the front of this one done, but I stuck it on for photos

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0008-3.jpg
So, you can see where this is going. I'm planning on finishing them tomorrow. After that, I'll stick them on for some photos, but be prepared for a solid stream of updates starting on Monday. I'm stripping it to the frame then, and moving everything to the 83 frame, where it belongs. Also, be prepared for a good explanation on how to repair and paint plastics, as that's on the top of the list to be done. That's all for now!

So, I got the wheels done today. As usual. I forgot most of the the in progress photos, but who really wants to watch Rusty Metal primer dry... Anyway, here are the few that I took.
First, I finished up the rears, and pulled the front
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0009-3.jpg
And then shot the front
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0011-3.jpg
I also resprayed the front axle and the fork extenders

This is the correct front fork for the 83.I sprayed some sealer on it today, and can hopefully spray it next week.

So, that's i for today, and probably for this weekend. Most likely, I'll ride the crap out of it in the next 2 days, since it'll be the last ride for a few weeks. Monday, everything comes off the 81 frame to go to the 83 frame. Also, the motor's coming apart, for a top end, shifter rod replacement, and gaskets. If I get the tool I need, the plastic repair will begin soon as well.

So, I took my last ride on my ATC in its current state. The oil leak is getting bad, there was a trail of dripping Castrol GTX and Rotella T following me on my ride, and it smokes like a two stroke. I'm hoping for it to be completely disassembeled by tomorrow night, and I'll probably pull the top end. Hopefully, I can have the frame as a roller by Wednesday, as I have the front fork ready to spray, and have the paint.
It all starts tomorrow morning...

Its time. I walked out into my driveway, and this was there
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0025-4.jpg
Since I let it set there overnight, you can see some of the issues that it has

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0033-2.jpg
As you can see, it leaks oil bad, and has a leaking tire. Plus, the smoking issue, and the fact it's an 81 frame with all 83 componets. This gave me an excuse to start the teardown

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0040-2.jpg
I may have the motor torn down by tonight, but if not, it should be here tomorrow morning.

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0051-1.jpg
Since then, I've got the other frame setting on a table, awaiting the rear axle componets that I am currently refinishing. Also, the front fork will probably be sprayed tomorrow, so that I can get the frame up as a roller. There will be another update in 2-3 hours, so keep watching!

Ok, I'm a little over the 3 hours, but I do have some progress to report. As of now, the front fork is currently hardening. Around 2 hours ago, I sprayed it. This is the same paint I'm going to use on the plastics. So, onto the photos

I hate to say it, but that isn't the same mower, though it looks almost identical. What I had in that photo was a rear engine Craftsman that I was trying to flip. You don't see many Cadet's like yours, and it looks good by your 110.

Ok, so I've been lacking in updates, but this should make up for it. Today, I needed to get a lot done, as I have to go to a family member's wedding, which is inconvienty 10 hours away in D.C., and everyone wants to see the sights on friday, so forget about any more progress for this week. Anyway, here is what I did today, First, I tried to remove the bore, but got nowhere, it wouldn't come off. So, I went ahead and installed the rear axle

Eventually, 3/4 of a can of PB later, the bore finally came off, but not easiy. Let's just say most shops wouldn't like the way I used the rubber hammer.
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0092-1.jpg
I unfortunately have pitting in the cylinder walls, so it looks like I'll be going to the machine shop.

So, that's it for this week. Next week should be the machine work, plastic repair, amd hopefully some parts in the mail. However. after that, there's going to be a week and a half off to go see some famly in Louisville, but a friend I know up there is coming down to run field day with me, and will be here all week. After this, it statred pouring rain. So, I didn't get any more photos. However, I did start bonding the fender back together, and was making good progress until it got dark, and that's the other reason I don't have any more photos of it. Tomorrow, I'm going to finish bonding the fender together, and hopefully block it, followed by etching primer.

Awesome! I have a friend that has a plastic welder, i want one some day. I used his to put back together the plastics on an old beater quad we used to use out on the farm for fencing, snagged stuff in the pasture too many times and ripped off a rear fender. The only thing i can say about plastic welding, after doing it about a dozen times now, get the surfaces CLEAN. If there is and old glue or gunk on there it just won't bond right. Its like any welding process, start with clean surfaces to work with. With plastic welding though you can't chip off the slag and move on.. LOL Get some gunk melted in and you get a void in the plastic that will crack and fail in a short time. Otherwise its not too hard to do! If you hunt around enough you can get the color plastic your repairing in some new rods to weld with. We did a blue Kawa fender with some blue rods and built it up a bit above the surface, used various grits of sandpaper to block it down then a couple hours of buffing and polishing with compounds and you could hardly see it, looked like a small wrinkle line in the plastic from when it was originally molded is all, the back side we just left proud of the surface.
Looking great can't wait to see how yours turns out. Oh and if you got 6m plans for Field Day listen for me! I will be operating out of EN14 in South Dakota with a 4el Yagi on 6m and 500w, i will also be on 2m SSB with an 8el and 160w. I am the weak signal guy in the local club, love it!

I'll look for you on Field Day. A buddy of mine, KJ4YXY, who is also 15, is coming down from Louisville to run with me. He got his general at Dayton this year, and hasn't actually run HF yet, so this should be good. Myself, I'll be manning the 857d and Ham Radio Deluxe for the PSK31 portion of our station. As far as I know, we will be running portable, being powered from a custom electric lawnmower I built, with either a G5RV laying in the garage, or some other wire that I come up with. If you're intrested in the plastic welder, it was $15 at harbor freight. If mine wasn't so badly cracked, I would have tried red rods and buffing. However, that's out of the question. Anyway, here's where I started today
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0302.jpg
Now, with the magic of time lapsing...
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0310-1.jpg
It's not the prettiest repair, but it's just as strong as the original plastic.
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0313.jpg
As you can see, it needs more work.
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0313.jpg
So, I stared with a 3M 60 grit disc and knocked down the weld on the top, and then applied the filler.

And the sanding begins

As usual, I don't have more photos, but I got a lot more done. I may actually have this painted tomorrow, or at least primered and blocked. Here's where the bad part comes in for everyone here: I'm going out of town again, on Thursday. This time, I'll be gone from this Thursday to this Friday. Even if I was here, not much would get done. since after I spray this, I'm basically just waiting on the machine shop to tell me what piston to order. When I do that, I'll be ordering all of the motor parts that I need, so that I can get it back together. Once I have all of them, I can reassemble it, and get it going again. So, 73 for now.

As for today's "progress", I called my machine shop and my cylinder is getting bored today, and I'll post a list tonight when I order all of the motor goodies. If I can find one for cheap (under $100, this and my e30 project are starting to get expensive) , I may get a performance exhaust for it. Otherwise, I'll be getting a hole in the other one welded up. Lastly, I'll be back in Mount Juliet on Friday, but Field Day is Saturday and Sunday (Eventually, I'll have to miss and go to TF) So, that's it for now.

Ok, well my machinist never called back (I'm willing to bet he called my home number), but I did order the decals today. I did an extensive search, but I didn't find any 1983 ATC110 decals that were available. I thought that I would use the 84 decals, but when pricing them out, it was stupid to pay $74 for the wrong set. So, I went to motodecals and bought a set styled identically to the ones on Tulsamike3434's 83, but in Blue instead of white. At $15, it saves me a good amount of money, and it goes with the Fake Anodized Gold wheels. It should look relatively good on it.

Today, my machinist called back, and my cylinder is now ready to go. So, I ordered a .20 oversized piston from dratv, along with a complete gasket set. Also, I picked up the model year decal from atcheaven. So, I should have this thing running next week if I can get all of the parts in.

KI4UJO
06-21-2012, 05:53 PM
With a 3 inch hole, get some plastic welding rods and the welder, and go to work. You need to gradually build it up onto itself to fill the hole. After that, you can either leave excess material and sand that, or fill. I shot it in Omni AE, a single stage enamel.

Do you have any trouble with the paint adhering to the fender? Did you just scuff the whole thing with scotch bright or? Did you have to use any special flex additive or just thin/spray from the can?
KI4UJO
06-25-2012, 11:26 PM
To get adhesion, I shot it in self etching primer before spraying on the regular primer as a filler. It came out pretty good except for the cracked area, which really wasn't worth the time as I'm planning on beating the crap out of this, like I do all of my off road toys:cool:
Anyway, I haven't made a real update in a while, so here we go: I got home from Louisville, and found this

It's not that bad, the area where the crack was is still somewhat rough, but I'm not going for showroom quality here. I'd like to give a detailed update of everything I did w/photos, but most of the ones I took today suck, so they're not worth it. Honestly, I'm still pissed with it, So, I got the motor together after fighting with the oil rings, and then I get it bolted in. At this point, I shift it into 1st to push start (I didn't have any rope on hand to fix the pull starter), and hear a loud pop. I'll pull the side case to fix it, I believe I dislocated the shift selector shaft. So, I tried to start it anyway, and never got anywhere. Unfortunately, I'm now in the same place that I was before this thing ran. At this point, I still need to check for spark as I can smell fuel and there is lots of compression. So, that's all until tomorrow.
KI4UJO
06-28-2012, 01:09 AM
A note to everyone doing a top end rebuild: Don't forget to install the gasket around the cam chain, it kills compression and puts oil in the cylinder. Now, I get the fun or burning the oil out. Rather than take a bunch of photos, I had a buddy of mine that I'm trying to convert to trikes (He's a die hard quad guy) shoot this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrjhC0WHiGI&feature=youtu.be
You can't me very well. but it proves that I exist, and that this thing runs. Now, I've got to come up with a temporary solution for the chain until I get the part. Hopefully I'll have a ride video tomorrow.

KI4UJO
06-28-2012, 12:10 PM
I'm getting ready to work on it now, I have to fix the 2 main issues: the chain being thrown and not being able to shift. Unfortunately, the adjustment piece for the chain adjustment rod is cracked, but I've got something temporary in mind with vise grips. As for the shifter rod, the right side case is coming back off to reseat the rod.
kb0nly
06-28-2012, 01:34 PM
Can it be welded where its cracked? Your talking the metal piece right?
KI4UJO
06-28-2012, 11:17 PM
Well, that's not really going to matter now. It turns out that the reason that nothing was working correctly is that my 83 frame is warped. This is why it was parted. I already started stripping it so that I could transfer it back to the 81 frame. The piece is slightly cracked, but will actually work.
As for how I believe it was warped: From what I can tell, I believe someone hit an object similar to a pole with the right rear wheel/axle. If the axle bent, they replaced it. However, when it hit, it also tweaked the rear of the frame. So, I wasted my time changing frames. Tomorrow, I'm putting everything back on the 81 frame. I'm not worrying about coating it, I just want to ride my trike! There WILL be a ride video tomorrow, even if the chain is tensioned w/vise grips and it clatters the whole time. Lastly, it really pissed me off that on the day I discovered the warpage, my 83 frame decal arrived. So, I'm going to order an 81 decal and put it on there with the 83, since it's not really an 81 or an 83.

I'm more determined with this as I was when I took my general class test at Dayton in 2009. I've got a reason to be motivated- someone must be saved from the tyranny of quads!

06-29-2012, 10:40 PM
I know, I may sig myself. Unfortunately, there is no ride video right now. My dad decided to take a random day trip to chattanooga today, along with the fact that it was 105. As of right now, I just dropped the motor out, and am ready to begin moving everything to the other frame. This may be an all nighter, but this really needs to get done. So, expect updates through the night.
KI4UJO
07-01-2012, 11:41 PM
So, here we go. I solved the chain issue, the sprocket was on the wrong side of the mount. However, this is when I discovered that my PO was an idiot, and rounded my chain tensioning shaft. Anyway, the motor has run in the original frame, and will be driving once I get the shaft and arm that adjusts the tension.

07-07-2012, 12:56 AM
Ok, so I actually got to work in a garage today! Well, actually just part of a garage, but it still counts. I needed to swap forks over to the replacement frame, as the old fork was warped. I started here

And ended up here
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/KI4UJO/GEDC0535.jpg
It's not much of an update, but at least it's something. Tomorrow, I should be getting chain tensioner parts, along with re-seating the shifter shaft. I'm going out of town again next week, but there's a good deal on a Big Red where I'm going, so I may come back with something.
KI4UJO
07-07-2012, 11:51 PM
I drove it today, for about 20 minutes. In those 20 minutes, I: discovered that my motor dumps oil from the bottom of the bore, and where the bore meets the head, found out that I need to get a tire plugged, and broke my master link. So, I can say that I drove it in its restored form, but unfortunately stuff just keeps breaking.

Well, it's really close to being done. It now shifts, and the chain issue is fully resolved. I would have a ride video, but my yard is a big mud hole and my tires aren't exactly boggers. Also, the tire can't be plugged, as it has too much dryrot.

I haven't updated this in a while, so this is a good place to restart. As you probably noticed, I never really finished this trike. Honestly, it was never what I wanted. Though it ran decently, it still had a tire that went flat along with repaired plastic that ripped out. So, I drug this home saturday.

Thread here: http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/150579-My-65-CL-110-125-Find
This frame will receive this 110's motor, tank, front fork, and plastics. As for the ripped rear render, I used the wrong type of plastic rod. It has now been repaired. Trust me, I TRIED to rip it, and could not do it. So, it is now undergoing more bodywork and will be reshot. I am also sourcing another recoil. This frame that my "83" is on now will return to its existence as an 81, using my collection of 110 spare parts. So, by the end of it, I will have an 85 110, and an 81 110. I really should change the title of this thread at some point. Anyway, here is a preview

I took more photos today, but for some reason they didn't save. What I was going to show was the freshly painted left side cover and Hi/Low cover. Also, in other news, I passed my drivers' test today! In true triker fashion, the first trip's going to be to the Honda dealer for intake and exhaust studs. Also, I'll be spraying the pull start tomorrow, as well as coating the exhaust with a high temp manifold coating. Top end gaskets and a new ring set (Oil rings were bent by me last time, it was my 1st attempt at building a motor)are on order and will get here later this week. Lastly, I think the thumb throttle has to go. It may be replaced with this

I like reading of your ATC 110 restoration progress. It motivates me to continue my own ATC 110 restoration. I can learn from your experiences, repair practices and methodologies.
I used E-6000 construction adhesive to reinforce the lower surface of crack-repaired ATC 110 rear fenders. My fender tops still show the cracks though.
Your rear fenders were in much worse condition. The left fender had a large hole but is now completely filled in.
What did you use for plastic filler material? What is the white coating material?
KI4UJO
03-23-2013, 09:47 AM
The plasti dip that I used is this - https://www.dipyourcar.com/product.php?productid=8&cat=8&page=1. I just bought it at lowes, for around $5.99 a can. It took 2 1/2 cans to do the front and rear (You could technically do it with less, but it starts to splatter when you get to the bottom of the can). I just cleaned them, and layed them on a small workbench and sprayed them.
For the huge hole, It was a multi step repair process. What I did was to cut pieces from a junk fender, and then melted them into the back of this fender using a heat gun. The issue for repairing them comes in the filler. There is no filler that I know of that is polyproplene compatible. So, I used a flexible automotive filler and laid it on heavily on top of the repair. This was in the fall. Over the winter, I rode it with the unpainted repaired fender. The filler slowly cracked out through the large rip, while the plastic held. At this point I realized that attempting to paint them would not work. To clarify, I can get the pant ti flex and stick, but it's not worth doing since the filler cracked out. So, I just dipped them.
I need to take some more photos, but the motor build's coming along well.

When I first started working on my 1985 ATC 110 engine, it had very little compression because there was insufficient clearance between the intake valve tappet and rocker arm. Re-setting the clearance to 0.003" restored compression. I suspect it had valve seat recession due to operation on un-leaded fuel.
FYI - On a 1971 Honda Trail 90 I have, the exhaust valve clearance would close up after ~1500 miles of operation (happened three times). Prior to that, when its cylinder head was removed to replace the exhaust valve guide oil seal, I did not notice whether or not Honda hard-faced the valve seats. If the valve seats are not hard-faced then it will be susceptible to valve seat recession when un-leaded fuel is used. I now add MDR Re-Lead to the fuel for both machines to coat the valve seats to mitigate valve seat recession.
Did you notice whether or not there are valve seat inserts in the cylinder head?

From what I saw, there was a metal sleeve that went around the seat. If that is what you're talking about, then yes. To ask, what BMW do you have? I have an 85 318i - http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1607757-My-318i-Thread
As for the 110, it is now running again. Unfortunately, I thought RTV for the side cases was good enough. Gaskets will be here later this week.

Your 110 looks a lot like my 110. Besides restoration, it's a fun machine to ride but I find it to be challenging to make a U-turn on a downhill incline without experiencing its tendancy to roll over. FWIW, there is a Loctite orange-colored product which is applied to flange mating surfaces to form a gasket. I used it on another engine at the hydraulic cam chain tensioner's flanged connection (as recommended by the manufacturer).
PS I have a BMW R1100RS, an R65LS and an R75/5.

I have nothing to show for it, but I rode it today.
WOW!
With good compression and fresh rings, this trike's quicker than I expected. The twisty helps as well, I can now ride for much longer than before and avoid my hand being sore. I'm not going to call it done (that's impossible), but I will say it's "assembled for a long period of time". I'll get you guys some video, but it'll probably be Sunday.

Looks like you've come a long way, nice looking trike. I know what you mean about needing a fresh rebuild, my 200m is feeling more tired everytime I ride it.
