OK long story short went to do my own clutch on my 200x. I'm not a bad mechanic, I've built alot of chevy, mitsubishi, and even a wankel 13B rotory engine to my completed list.

OK carefully took everything apart got down to the point where I needed a special too to actually get the clutch apart. Said to myself it's not worth fighting it so I will put it back together and take it to the shop. So installed the new gausket the reassembled it. I'll just get them to order a new gausket and do it, I thought.

Well now one of the top bolts leak oil like a sive and 2 of the top bolt wouln't really tighten down like they were stripped.

I'm sick over the whole ordeal. Can I have a shop heli coil it? is there a way to fix it?

Words of wisdom to ease the mind would be great.

Have the shop that screwed it up fix it RIGHT , or have them pay to have it fixed.

Helicoil or new crank cases if you want to fix it correctly

I have fixed stripped case bolts with a strip from the bottom of a pop can before ( emergency fix 2+ hours from home ). Recommended? Not really. Do-able? Yes, very do-able.

Fix it right ( heli coil, case replacement ) and you will be good for years.

OK????? So if there is hope..... Where can I find a new case? Or do you mean good used one?

I love my X, I want to cherry it out and keep it for a very long time. Hell I just dropped 300 on a vintage NOS S&S exhaust in the original box and paperwork. Was already thinking about rejetting and gaining about 2 to 4 extra HP. Not a leaky case......

IMHO, helicoil might be more efficient for your situation. If you are going to replace the right side (clutch side) crankcase half, I would go ahead and get a complete gasket kit. If you need any help, let me know.

THanks for all the replies. I am humbly going to take it to my local shop ask him to do the clutch and see what I need to do in his opinion. If I can get away with a helicoil then that's an ok road for me. If not I will be replacing the case or entire lower half.

This is my baby and I missed her today out riding.

If you put all the bolts in, they should stick out the bottom relatively the same, Aside the ones that go in deep.

The simple rule is 1.5 x diameter.

In other words, a 6mm bolt must protrude 9mm from the bottom of the case to have the most strength. Any less, it will strip.

If you haven't torn into motors, it's best to find a piece of cardboard, draw a rough sketch of the cover and jam the bolt through; It just helps you reassemble........

Great advice, I do this everytime I disassemble my motors
