I gotta change the front tire on daughters 85 sx and would like to know
what kind of time and trouble I'm looking at.
I have a spare parts sx and I keep soaking the axle bolt with liq wrench.
Hear that they can weld themselves into the aluminum threads.
Anything else I should know?
Thanks

No easy way to do this..soak, heat, impact, repeat!!
Once off, I take mine apart about at least once a year. Clean and inspect the front brakes, a bit of never seize on the threads.

yep,,the 4 10 nuts wil come right off,,or usually someones already broke 1 or 2 for ya. But the axle seizes inside the hub,not usually in the fork unless someones been there before and boogered up your threads for ya! Heat, lube impact : ( Good luck! You can also cheat and spin the fork tube ,remove the 4 hub nuts and change the tire ,leaving the axle on the bike. Better to get it apart and clean and lube. But sometimes this is NOT possible without destroying parts!

oooh, thanks youse guys.
Glad I asked.
I had a feeling it wasn't gonna be a simple 'change the tire' before we hit the dunes kinda deal.
Maybe I'll just swap forks ( the whole front end) and not mess with the tire and axle bolt at all.
Guess it's not a bad idea to hit those threads with penetrant just as a monthly ritual.

Time to ditch whole 250sx front end and go with the 200x. Much better ride and looks tits.

Is there a reason why so many people swap the WHOLE 200x front end? I used the 200x forks, hub and wheel but kept the 250sx triples, headlight, axle and fender. I had to make new axle spacers and still need to make a spacer for the brake caliper, but none of that is to difficult.

^ I was gonna ask, what about the caliper?? Anyhow, I have had to take a rt. angle cut off blade to the brake drum where they commonly seize.
Guys do it again and again, grease EVERY thing that may see water. It's worked me for a couple decades.......

im not a big fan of the 200x front on a 250sx. the front end comes up to easy without the lighter front end , plus its hard to hook a rack to it.. hehe

Did I read where a 250r forks fit on a 200x and with more travel? If so why not go straight for the R forks?
