ordered a rebuilt piston kit for my big red. was going smoothly back together and everything was inplace. went to go put the valve cover back on and remembered there is suppose to be a gasket set in place first (the old one ripped in pieces when i took the valve cover off to clean it). now i need a gasket, just one. i either buy a gasket kit which includes all the gaskets from trans to cylinder, valves to exhaust ring. im looking at $35-$45 for a kit or i buy a can of silicone liquid gasket since its only the valve cover. does anyone have a say in this quick procedure or do i buy a whole gasket kit for one freakin' gasket?

I could be completely mistaken here, but I thought the valve cover didn't use a gasket? Just sealer, no?

The valve cover is indeed sealer. Your valve adjusters are rubber orings. Either way, they sent you the correct gaskets. You need 3m,hondabond,,something along those lines. Clean top of head and bottom of valve cover and cam cover. Smear it on paper thin with your finger, let tack a few minutes, and torque down. These bolts break VERY easily!!! If you don't have a torque wrench. a 1/4 in socket, just snug. Recheck after 3 or 4 tanks.

Agreed - there is no gasket for the valve cover.

when i took the valve cover off it did have some type of paper gasket, that i am sure of. if there was not suppose to be a gasket then someone put one on this motor valve cover. i do have liquid gasket sealer specifically for valve covers. a am no amateur when it comes to re sealing motors by the way. thanks for replying

Good to hear about your experience. Honda never put paper on any on these engines. Someone had been in there : (

it was paper like gasket material.
hopefully the CDI gasket holds up, might just seal that also.
