I like the old air cooled stuff so I started a project on a 84 atc 250R. It will have a very rare cylinder only given to factory honda race teams to race in a open class. It's going to be around 350cc. The bore is 80.50mm and the stroke is 69mm. Griss Grissom is doing the port work on the motor. He has been building race motors for over 30 years. I got it rolling this weekend and thought I would post some pics of the R. The wheels and tires on the back are to just to roll it around. The tires that are ordered for it have been backordered for ever it seems.http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1699.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1701.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1702.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1700.jpg

I got the motor back from getting ported and it looks like a good job that Chris Grissom did on it. I'm going to start cleaning everything up for final assembly of the motor. He set it up to 2 different head gaskets. A .020 that has .055 squish and a .027 that has .062 squish. It's going to be a race gas monster with the .020 gasket. I can't wait to get it going.http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1746.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1743.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1742.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1741.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1740.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1745.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1744.jpg

Your builds are always a treat. Very, very nice..I second this emotion. Seeing your '82 300r in person was a pleasure and this '84 is top notch. Keep up the good work Shannon.

I always get happy when I see another post from you sir. Your builds are very top notch! Question for you. How do you come across these rare parts for your builds? Just very patient on ebay/craigslist/classifieds, or did you use to race back in the day and have kept your contacts?

Very nice work Shannon! Who did your engine work again? Did you mean Chris Grissom in Paris, TN? Thanks!

I get lucky and people know it will get used and not just hoarded up. Yea, Chris Grissom from Paris. It's cool to talk to him about the old days racing. He has alot of knowledge and don't mind sharing it. He has a class at the local trade school that I would love to attend but I can't quit my day job.

you got me there and what a nice pipe so its not just a a 300 kit on the top end

stroberts22
05-28-2012, 07:57 PM
No, it's a 350 cylinder but I didn't have the head for it so I used a 300 head on it. It has a 80mm bore compared to 76mm of a 300r but it also has a 69mm stroke so it is right around 350cc.

stroberts22
05-28-2012, 10:20 PM
I've been working on it for awhile now but recently it just started coming together. I started just after the Mugen build. That's why it has took so long on that one plus I decided to rebuild the 200x to boot.

Got it wired and the carb on today. Put some gas in the tank and it fired! I got alot of finishing touches but will be riding it soon.

I've been working on the jetting. It's close. It has so much torque it almost pulls your arms out of their sockets when you just blip the throttle. I haven't got a chance to see how the topend is yet. I hope it has the top end to go with the bottom.

Shannon, it was a pleasure meeting and racing you at TF this year. I had the pair of Tecates that enjoyed doing battle with your SUPER fast 300R and Tecate. I told you down there, and i'll say it again. You have one of the greatest 1st gens i've ever seen and raced. That was a very fun evening making so many passes w/ ya. I look forward to doing it again next year. Keep your eyes open for a fresh yellow 85 Tri-z.

Thanks guys. I enjoyed riding with everyone at trikefest. Tecat-z that 33 tecate is unreal. I like to see a old school racer beat up on all them paddle tired, stripped down 3wheelers. That was a major accomplisment for you winning that class. I wish I'd done better in the drag races and got to the final against you.

stroberts22
07-11-2012, 08:38 PM
I got the jetting done today and I wish I had it done before Trikefest. It has alot more power than the 300r. The lowend grunt is awesome and it keeps pulling HARD thru topend. Any more radical on the port job and it would be unrideable.

You asked for it. Another video of a hillbilly and his threewheeler. The front brake line started leaking and the black # plate background blew off but for the most part it is done.

I really appreciate all the compliments but this one sticks out because they wouldn't be worth the time or effort to build them if I didn't ride them. I see alot of 3wheelers being built and some have never had gas in the tank. I think this is a waste. I will ride them hard because they are not worth anything to anyone except me and that's what they were made for. Thanks again guys.

I've picked that up very strongly from you. A couple things, everyones different. You,obviously love 3wheelers. And are very educated in them, and build and ride perfect beauties. You also put a lot of money into them,so years down the road that you have started down,,deep into this obsession,lol.. Wouldn't it be nice,,to walk into your home, basement, living room,,even climate controlled garage, to see a brand new, never touched, polished beauty,to look at,stare at and admire?. Everyday,,year after year,no washing needed. Always there to enjoy in ALL it's perfection. Those of us "hoarding" as you call it,collecting,we call it,are not wrong for doing what we do. We all have many machines that we also ride. We're just different in that we have devoted so much more time and money in,that we can have some 'trailer queens",we don't have to ride. But we do ride, myself anyhow. I tremendously enjoy your work, passion, choice of parts,,Everything you do!!!!! I just hope for you to understand some of the rest of us. Always looking forward to what's next from you! Classy work!

My red gas tank sprung another leak. I need to find a tank sealer that will hold up to race gas. With my red tank messed up I decided to throw on the white tank and some white plastic I have and run it while I fix the red tank. I love how it looks in the white plastic. Looks like a later model 3wheeler. I'm still amazed on how it runs. It's the most powerful thing I've ever rode. http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1912.jpghttp://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1913.jpg
