Awesome Z.
The 86's are getting kinda rare.
I have an 86 and may be getting another 86. Let me know if you have any questions.
If you need some fork boots Summit Racing has a pair of red ones that are a perfect match. I have them on mine. Also the front fender is not available any more...but the rears are.
Go to a sign company if you want to reproduce the rear graphics.
Anyway...stay in touch and give us plenty of pics!!!

I almost thing it's an 85 because I don't see the coolant bottle holder.

What is the purpose of the coolant bottle? Is it just to catch the liquid if you overheat the bike?
Dynofox

It's an overflow tank for the cooling system.

Hey Darius1502,
Your Z is incomplete, you need the little black plugs in your skid plate :D

wow...you guys are perceptive. I thought it was an 86....I don't remember if the frame is differernet where the coolant bottle holder bolts in. Mine looks like his frame so I assumed an 86.
Yeah those little plugs... I did manage to find some (at Loews Hardware) and put them in but they fell out. I need a bigger size.
I guess it might be an 85....you guys are awesome.
Man I love trike projects....just seeing all those cruddy parts reminds me of my project!

the engine runs fine just wanna strip it and check it over if it needs rebuilding i'll do it now might as well coz the whole bike is getting the make over treatment.......errrrrr full restoration...should i say.....or is restoration the wrong term as it wont be " factory ".....gonna pay a visit to my old mate who owns a breakers 2 mins from my place and see if i can get a "USD" front end...... to fit the standard yolks...probably need to fabricate some new mountings for the caliper and maybe fit a bigger disk,
:D it's gonna be a long winter......that reminds me better get a new lpg gas bottle for my garage heater.......and stock the fridge up with BEER....
I CANT REMEMBER THE LAST TIME SOMEONE SAID "AT LAST WINTER IS HERE"............. 8)

No thats a 1986 Model for sure!!!
White fenders and red plastic definitely an 86! It would be nice to see you stick with red and white color scheme.
Looks like a fun project!
Darius
If you want to know for sure check the frame #'s on the steering head. Anything 86 will have 1RX as the first three. 85'S have 38W. This includes your shock reservoir, engine and some other misc parts. It good to know this way you can see what was mismatched with 85. But I can tell you that is an 86 frame you have. Good luck with it.

If I was you I would get the frame and all the old red steel parts powdercoated red again and then go with 85 Yellow Z fenders and shrouds. It'd look sweet IMO.

ewwwwwww red and yellow......nahhhhhhh......remind me not to ask for your help redecorating my house.hehehe  .....looks ominous for the engine stripped it today and descovered 2 1 1/2" scores on the front side of the piston and the matching scores below the exhaust port.....and a very small amout of play in the main bearing.....rebuild time,,,,, 8)

Can you snap some pics of the those piston 'scores' on the front of your piston.
I saw that on my 'Z' when I removed the exhast pipe. Are any scores bad to have on the piston...I tend to think it means the rings are well worn.
Darius
Otherwise how deep are they, etc?
trizee250
11-24-2003, 08:16 AM
not a very good pic but you can see the score marks......and a pic of the engine as it was removed from the frame

Thanks for the pic...mine are worse than that...probably should be changed now!
Thanks and I can't wait to see more pics!
Darius
Is that a flat top piston dude? Where did you get a flat top piston? Doesn't look domed.....maybe it's just me?
trizee250
12-02-2003, 04:55 AM
it's not flat flat.......it's a little domed....dude... :D

12-02-2003, 05:26 AM
yep, those marks mean bad rings, the black streaks are where the oil/gas has been blowing past them....if you have them its definatly time for a rebuild, or at least hone the cylinder and get new rings
