Hey guys are the fenders on this factory? all the scramblers I have ever seen either had dark green or black fenders on them just curious, other then that what you guys think of this looks pretty nice and clean eh? I notice the fender is melted a bit by the exhaust and the headlight is missing anything else you guys notice about it, I'm hoping to go pick it up soon if I get all the right answers to the questions I asked

The rear renders are very dark blue from factory, black tank.
IMO it simply has been painted.

Yep, been painted. If my eyes serve me right, you can sort of see the correct color under that dust beneath the front fender.

I agree 100%, they have been painted, on the last photo, the gas tank has a rub mark showing the correct color underneath, and inside the front fender, same thing, I can see the correct color underneath. Also heat shield is missing on the exhaust pipe, the rear rack has been painted. The wheels are the wrong color and look to have been painted too. As you pointed out, the headlight is missing. Thats all I can make out without seeing the other side and the and the back. Good luck with the purchase, and hopefully welcome to the P3 owner's club.

Well I joined your club and just bought this for $500 but it needs a clutch which the polaris dealer just told me is $200 ish thats if I can't get the old one to work, An old guy owned it and didn't sound very knowledgable so maybe it will be an easy fix also he said it needs a new starter to use the electric start but starts right up with the pull start, also yes it has been spray painted but i'll just get my soda blaster out and take the paint off, seems like a good deal for $500 considering it's rarity and it is actually in nice shape other then a couple little things and hey it's a 250 2 stroke so it has to have some kick to it

They move right out man! I bought mine 2 weeks ago, and have ridden it twice. Once just around my neighborhood, and did a trail ride last weekend, and I am very very impressed with it. It is not a 250R, but it holds its own. I have found my new favorite machine and cannot wait to ride it again. I think you did alright on it. I bought mine for $700, and it needs a couple small things nothing major though. The starter had already been done, and it had a new battery installed last year. The things I have done or need to do are, reaseal the belt case, replace front brake cable, do some brake adjustments, replaced taillight bulb, and that is about it.

If you need to have them replace the clutch, you will want to get the starter done at the same time.
You basically have to take it down to the frame to get to the starter motor, so it will make sense to do them together.
Unlike ATC's, there is very limited access to some parts. Working on these is no picnic - but they are SOOOOO worth it.
You can buy the starter motor (AND BENDIX) from discountstarterandalternator.com.
Pretty cheap (i think $45), but the parts aren't listed on their website - you will have to call them.
Looks like you got a nice one. Welcome to the club!!

To remove the clutch cover properly you have to remove the rear rack, rear fenders and THEN the clutch cover. Biggest PITA machine to ever have to work on, but one ride and you will understand why us P3 owners LOVE THEM!!!
To change the starter you have to remove the rear rack, rear fenders, clutch cover, clutches, clutch cover backing plate. Once you get those removed you can then access the starter bolts that hold the starter in. Last starter took me around 3-4 hrs. Now I am in the habit of pulling the starter and checking it everytime I have the clutch cover off.

got ya on that howdy, So as a man with a few of these does this one look in decent shape to you, he says it starts right up but of course with no clutch it's not going far but I did some research on these and can't wait to ride it, what with not having to shift and reverse to boot!!! I haven't got to pick it up yet and probebly not for a couple weeks so I haven't went over it yet to see what else I am in for. I plan on soda blasting the ugly blue off which I think will work good and not hurt the plastic and it needs a headlight, would you happen to have one kicking around that you would part with? anyways I'm sure you might get a few pm's from me as I think your the man around here when it comes to these

JJ, unless somebody has seriously messed with the clutch or other wise just screwed it up it most likely just needs cleaned so the inner slider can allow the outer part to float back and forth as needed.
I don't really know the correct terminology for those parts but I have had to take my side cover off and WD-40 that shaft then spray some waxy type chain lube on it. Done it a couple of times anyway but have not had to do it for about 4 years now.
Not sure if it is belt dust or what.

Looks like the rear rack is bent down on both sides , maybe was rolled , would explain the missing head light as well. Have only rode mine around the yard once(needs an air filter) but I think I'm going to love it! Not ready to get rid of the big red or any 250r but this may become my prefered 3 wheeled ride!

Ya Jes I had the same sort of idea in my mind to and that will be the first thing I try to do, thanks for the info when I go pick it up i'm sure i'll be asking for more info about things, people always want to just go out and wast money when something breaks but most times you can fix the problem if you use your brain
