i have a 82 big red and it has some tickage on the topend. valves are set to .003. i never adjusted a cam chain before so im just wondering how lol.

Does it change with temperature?
oil's good?

I always did it with the manual method..many times was certain it wasn't setting up properly.

That way does work well, but be careful doing it. Tightening the chain too tight can cause it to stretch prematurely, or wear the guides. It also could cause the cam to wear on the bearing surfaces on the head and cover too.

Well I learned my one thing for today! Great video, especially for someone like myself who has never attempted a cam chain adjustment.

I know, I just stumbled upon that one day and of course I go looking around for a 3mm x .5 x 2" screw and I can't find one, LOL. The search continues...

Dang. I just went through this a few days ago. New chain and sprocket and found that the adjusting lever that has the spring on it was actually bent. Got that all fixed up and started putting everything together. Where I messed up was putting the fly wheel on it pushed the key way and then was having problems getting it in time. Well back apart it went and thats when I noticed that problem with the keyway and me trying to start it ended up with a bent valve. Damn! Oh well, lesson learned!! Parts ordered today.
