I am thinking of buying a 200x I saw on craigs list.
Any bad features I should know about the 84's or 200x's in general?
Any grand wisdom is appreaciated.

HORRIBLE kick starter gears. cracks around the sprocket area from chain breakage. bent rear axles, forks.

Yep, what he said. Check the downtube on the frame for welds/repairs too.

looks like a bassani exhaust. i would say its a fair price. if nothing is cracked i would get it. FIRST thing to do is take those 80 lb weights off the rear rims

yea lol :trailpro: i my self run cheng shin lumber jack tires. since they are a harder tire so they dont squish when you want to go sideways. they have good tread for snow/mud and dont weigh alot. i love mine on my autox

Ya i'd buy it for sure looks in good shape, with all the parts present, will save you alot of money not having to buy stuff

Looks like an okay deal, you can always try to haggle a bit on the price.
I see it looks to be missing the rear skid plate, check for broken bolts/mounts. Point out that it will cost you to replace it, might get you $50-$75 off the asking price.

Thanks, I am stoked for Monday........
Having trouble sleeping just thinking about it. I ALWAYS wanted a 200 or 350X since I was a kid.

They are very reliable bikes, hell they'll run with almost no oil in the crank too
Like others mentioned, bent axles, kickstarter gears, broken downtubes, shock condition, all things that you can use to bring the price down.

Great trikes (I have 2) but 28 years old now:
- does it have brakes at both ends and do they work? ($100ish)
- how are all 4 sets of bearings (front axle, rear axle, swingarm pivot and steering stem)? ($125 and a PITA to replace - at least on the swinger)
- how do the chain and sprockets look? ($100)
- what's the inside of the gas tank look like? ($100 for ebay stocker, $200 for plastic)
I'm cheap - $700 is high end for it if it needs none of the items above.

Here is part of the email I got describing the bike.
I’ve had the ATC for about 20 years and just went through it completely about a year ago. All tires are new as well as the seat cover and fork boots and seals. All the wheel bearings were replaced or greased. All the hydraulics were rebuilt. It has new chain and sprockets. Runs real strong and will start right up. Don’t know if there was ever any work done on the motor, I’ve never had to do anything to it. Does have aftermarket exhaust that sounds good. The bike is mechanically sound.
This guy has alot of other dirt bike projects too. I am going to peek into his collection when I get there.
I am still so STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh good Lord don't say that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No for real we talked about differant days to go see the bike starting with Friday. He couldn't do friday, I couldn't do Saturday or Sunday. But for whatever reason we both had monday off. So I'll send the kiddo to school the wife to work, and I get a day to goof off. If I buy the bike (80% sure) then on the way home I will stop off at our local ATV park/trail and play the afternoon away.......
Well that's the plan anyway.
