1986 Honda 250SX Gas Tank

I posted a week or two ago about a beat up trike I picked up but the post is no where to be found so I'll ask here. I need a gas tank for the 250SX & was wondering is it better to get an old tank, clean out the rust as that's all I can seem to find or spend around the same amount on a brand new metal tank?
