i have a 1982 250r and i would like to replace the rear shock.. i was wondering if anyone knows if there is any other shock from a newer model four wheeler or dirtbike or something that is easily fabricated into this model of machine... if not, what is my best option to get a new working shock in this machine, does honda still sell them? i also heard rebuilding them is a nightmare? any info is much appreciated!:wondering

the stock shocks are junk i would guess new or old. what i have been think with my r is using a quad racer rear shock it look be about the same size on bother end but it is 3 or 4 inches long depend on what you want that could be good or bad. a 450r shock will also fit up side down it you make a new top mount. there lots of room to work with on these bikes around the back shock so i would imagine you get just about what ever you wanted in there

This thread is 5 years old, so why don't you simply start your own thread stating exactly what you have and exactly what you want to achieve etc.

The only aftermarket shock I've seen for the 1st generation R is Works Performance. There may be one on ebay right now, if not they show up now and then. Unfortunately the guy who owned Works Performance passed away about a year ago and they went out of business. They were good for building shocks for old school machines. I have one on my 82 and it works good.
