I bought a really nice '81R front hub and I want to have it cut down to do the disc brake mod on my 70. I'd like to know how to do it, or if someone on here would like to do it for a fee. Also, what caliper is most often used? I'm starting to gather parts. Thanks!

What I did, and there are different methonds, is to take a 1981 ATC1250R frt hub ,remove the disc mount flange, shorten the hub to the correct length ( now I did this on a suspended frt end and not on a solid fork) remachine the recesses for the bearings and seals , (now in the pic I cut bothe recesses areas off and rewelded them back on but have since found people with lathes and machine them now...much easier) shorten the center spacer and then reweld the flange back on. You will need to make up spacers also and I think the 250R axle is a larger diameter so you would need and alxe also. I also did a drum brake on a suspended frt end for my 73 ATC70, even that is an improvement. Now you should upgrade to the 8" aluminuim wheel for clearance (remeber the 250R had 8" wheels) and any small caliper can be made to work, on mine I used an 86 200X caliper because I had it here and did a leading caliper to resemble the Tiger since my bike is painted to look like a Tiger, on another members I used a CR125R dual piston frt caliper and mounted behind the fork. I am not doing any more of these conversions right now but will help answer questions.

Thanks Bruce, now I have an idea of what I need to gather for parts. Still not sure if I'm doing suspension yet (I'd love to, but not alot of toy money right now). This '81 R hub is so nice, I hate to cut it up!
