View Full Version : 225DX rear end locked up on me

i finally got it all together and test drove my 225DX
the bearings were smooth and no sound at all from them
about 20 minutes of put putten around i stopped
then i gunned it and it has great take off
then right in the middle of a wheelie after i gunned it
rear end locked up
i tore it apart and the bearings all fell apart
they are sealed bearings
brand new
they were on therre good
why would the brand new bearings do that
please help with advise
the bearings are very expensive
any website i can get them from besides denniskirk and bikebandit and partsfish

Take the remains of the race with the numbers on it, and go to the local bearing supplier. Look in the Yellow pages under "bearings". They'll match them up for you, and at a much cheaper price. Get your seals there too.

why did the brand new bearings do that
i done everything by the book

Were they installed too tight, too loose. Were they exposed to water and left wet. Were they not coated well in grease before installing? Just a few thoughts...

When you installed them did you hammer them in? If so did you hit the center part? I have seen a couple sets where the installer hammered them in hitting the center part. This damages the bearing.

It's also possible you got junk bearings.

Napa is another good place for bearings. I use them once and a while.

as soon as i took the bearing out of the package
i put them in
i packed them full of grease
no wetness at all
i did hit it with a hammer
but i tapped it lightly

does napa carry the differential bearings for the rear end
if so i may have to call them
