Hi I just installed an 85 200X carb on my 85 200S

I used the existing throttle cable on the 200S
Checked the settings on the 85 200X carb

It has the stock 108 main jet and needle is on 4th groove
Cleaned out the carb. Pilot screw 2 1/4 turns out after seated

Have a new uni air filter closed air box.

Plug chop WOT plug tan looks good. Runs good.

Question:

It will pop at full choke but wont run until you start it with choke off. Otherwise it runs great.

I looked at carb before I installed it and the flap closes like it should
when choke is on.

Any reason why it wont run when choke is on ?

I broke down and cleaned entire carb.

Umm... choke is for cold starting only. its going to pop when its on and you are driving it. unless i read this wrong just leave your choke off like it should be

Easy fix. Don't choke it unless you have to.

Back when my 200ES Big Red was new (a long time ago...) I almost NEVER had to choke it. No, it wasn't always blubbery rich either. It just started easy, even in the cold. So, as long as your plug isn't getting sooty black, then you're good to go.

Just found it strange. The stock carb runs higher idle when choke is on.
The 350X I had did the same thing. Thanks for the reply.
