Hello,
I have an 86' Tecate 3, and I am looking at doing a 89' KX 500 engine swap into it. Is there others out there that have suggestions, products, links to other forums that have already completed this or just any good ole advice would be really appreciated. I know this is a pretty common swap, and I was told there isn't much to it...so anyone and everyones help would be GREAT!

I got the pipe with the motor.....all included.....Can't I just mod the KX pipe? i.e hangers?

it will take a little more than moving the hanger

The engine will bolt right in for the most part. The pipe takes a lot more than just moving hangers. Trying to fit an air filter on them can be tricky and figuring out what to do about a kick start is another concern. I ended up using the base of the KX kicker and the lever from a Tecate. You have to have the hardened steel base bored to accept the Tecate kicker though and that's much easier said than done. I can run the shorter Tecate lever because my motor has a compression release so it kicks over like a 125. You'd otherwise never be able to kick it over.

EDIT- It's the kick start lever that gets bored, not the base.

I wanted to see if others have input and/or see if they wanted to share their experiences. Was I supposed to let the post die after your reply? Not sure why you are asking? Thank you for answering my question.... I just don't know if others had any different experiences that they would like to share.

Bump.....Bump

I think what Fabio is referring to is, that bumping a post that is only a day old and has responses is generally frowned on. If your thread gets "moved" to page 2 becauase of lack of response, bump it then....but even then maybe not so obviously - try replying to what has been posted, ask follow up questions, etc. Hope this helps you in the future.
