View Full Version : What's a fair price on a rear rack?

Looking to buy a rear rack for the 250sx. It seems for this model people seem to ask quite a bit for less than average condition racks. I've noticed other racks for other bikes don't sell for as much. They seem to be fairly common, I've never not seen one on eBay, so what should I expect to pay for one?

They are not very common, at least in my experience. My SX came with one, so I didn't have to buy one, but the one's I've seen for sale on ebay were around $150 or so.

A rear rack for $35? I bet that's long gone. I've Seen them for $150-$200 plus shipping but they're either rusted or missing the brackets. I know they're older parts but I can live without for that price by the time you invest in restoring one. I like the look but it's not a need at the moment. I was just curious why the 250sx racks were worth more that say a big red?

You can fabricate a rack way better than the cheapo Hondaline design for under $50.

I thought about fabricating one however you have to have the tools to do it.:( I can understand paying NOS prices but $200 for a rusted piece of metal seems crazy when they don't seem to be that rare. I guess it is what it is

I seen that one myself but its missing the pins to hold the rack into the mounts on the frame. So your technically not getting everything u need. Just sayin....

That is a tired rack. But it is Hondaline. Missing the chrome hold downs like user said.

That's what I'm saying. Most of what I see is in poor condition and missing parts but yet everyone wants a fortune for them. I guess because it's vintage it's worth a brick of gold. I don't need one that bad. I have a buddy with a welder and we'll fabricate one that's even better than the original if I have to. I'm not into pissing money away.

thats one of the ugly ones!! i like the wrap around style much better! i'll try to find a pic!! the sx did not come factory with a rack, the 250es did!! thats why the disparity in prices! es racks are much more common!!
if your up north anyone, this is a great deal! i was tempted to go pick it up while i was in nh this past weekend, it was just too far to add that much to my already long commute!!

Many owners don't have tubing benders, metal cutters and mig welders. Your 1st rack would be crap, the 2nd better and maybe 3rd or 4th would come out great........

Might want to check with blacksheep over on .org. He was making some very sweet brand new bolt on racks for the sx. They didn't require drilling the rear fenders either like so many did back in the day. From what i saw, they looked amazing and were priced right.
