I finally got my BR registered today :Bounceso I figured I would share the info that was required and the costs.

This is for Pennsylvania residents only! I do not know what it costs for other states or out of state riders to regester theirs to ride PA state lands.

1) Title or if it is untitled you must have a notarized Bill Of Sale. Get blank one here - http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/95487-Downloadable-Bill-Of-Sale-form
2) Either a tracing or picture of the VIN (I used a pic, they will keep and send pic in with appplication)
3) Valid drivers license

Costs: (all paid at notary)
1) Title - $22.50
2) Registration - $20.00 (included plate with 2 yr sticker)
3) 6% sales tax on purchase price....Mine was $18 for $300 purchase price
4) Notary fee - $19.00......This will vary per notary

Altogether it cost me $79.50

Trike must not have been registered before or if it was you need the title!! Also what would seem to be obvious it can't be reported stolen either. They will run the VIN before registering it. Here's the # to call and check - 1 866 545-2476. It's the PA DCNR. As I was told when inquiring awhile back about this tell them you are looking to buy the machine and wanted o check the VIN beforehand. If it comes back as stolen they will probably want to seize it. In that case your search for a new frame with a legal VIN will need to start if you want to get it registered.
Hope this helps someone out wanting to get theirs ready for some spring riding on state lands. Now that mines done hopefully I can hook up with some guys on here for some rides myself.:p

Insurance will also be required to run on any state lands. This will be my next endeavor!

I would call your local notary on the ID. Not sure if actual license is required or if a just a valid ID. I just picked up insurance as well (needed for state lands) and they required my license #.
The insurance company I used is "Rider Insurance" www.Rider.com. Notary I got everything done had their brochure. They service PA, MD, NJ, OH, IN, & WV. For minimum required PA coverage (liability only) it was $60. Don't seem too bad.

All set now!

Maybe one of you guys without a license can call your local notary and reply back with ID info for the benefit of all it may effect?
Hope it doesn't stop you from getting it registered! Good Luck!

Headsup - As long as you can get bill of sale notarized. May be better to have it registered to her if you don't have valid license. They did ask me when I got the insurance if anyone else in the household would be operating the vehicle. Maybe some research on the DCNR website would give clear answers. If you get "pulled over", spot checked, etc while riding on state lands do they require to have a valid drivers license if your of legal age? Sorry I don't have these answers.

Here is a link to the PA DCNR web page for registration. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/recreation/atv/atvregistration/index.htm It does not say anywhere that you need a valid drivers license. There is a tab for contacting them where you can email questions. Wouldn't hurt to email them and ask?

Thanks for that, I will email them in a few and wait for the response. I will Reply here with the information they give me.
Thanks for that!

If it is a state issued ID then that should be fine. It is considered to be the same as a license for proof of who you are.
I went through my State Farm agent when I got my Big Red registered a few years ago. I just got the state required liability insurance.

With my experience in NH (a fairly lenient state) you need a valid drivers license to operate any OHRV assuming you are of age to drive. Your license cannot be revoked or suspended for any reason or you are illegal. I went down that road 15 years ago when I lost my license for a "driving to endanger" on a street bike.

BTW, anything over 25 years old in NH is considered Antique and its a one time reg fee of $51.50 for a lifetime reg:D

EDIT: NH has no insurance requirements

I know this is a PA thread but just figured I would chime in on NH.

This is some great info for PA riders. Maybe a "Sticky" is in order showing what each State and Province require to register/insure ATC's. I'm sure the same questions have surfaced before many times. Just a thought.

I think that would be a great idea coolpool. I was one of those asking these same questions awhile back. I'm sure there will be more asking in the future once this thread is buried somewhere in the depths of Trikesylvania. LOL
Motordude - interesting fact with the antique registration! That just may be worth looking into here in PA as well. Thanks for the tidbit!:beer

So can you drive it on the road now? If not, the process seems a waste of time, doesnt PA offer ORV stickers for state trail riding like most other states?

I went through all this last year for my 350x. I did it all online, and if you follow the guidelines on the DCNR website, it's easy. The only thing I had to do was find the guy who sold it to me and get his address, etc. I didn't have that on my original bill of sale. Somewhere on the site is a real nice bill of sale form, I made a dozen copies and carry them in my truck, you never know when you'll need to buy a 3 wheeler! :lol:

00rman - I far as I know the only time an atv is allowed on public roads in PA is during a state of emergency such as a major snow storm. The reregistration & the plate are required for driving anywhere other than your own or someone else's private property with permission according to the DCNR web page. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/recreation/atv/atvregistration/index.htm

I need to move to Texas! LOL

Wow, guess I wont be making any riding trips to PA. Most states offer an ORV registration sticker for around 20 bucks a year that can be bought anywhere hunting/fishing licenses can be bought, also at most dealers and even at some gas stations in northern michigan. Stick it to your ORV, and you are legal for state land. Some states require you to have a valid title to get this sticker (Ohio does), and some dont (Michigan doesnt). I think all states should require this, it would help cut down on theft knowing you cant ride a title-less vehicle on state property.

It does say this on the DCNR site:

"Pennsylvania registration is NOT required for:
ATVs used exclusively as utility vehicles for agricultural or business operations;

ATVs owned by nonresidents covered by a valid registration in their state, province or country that honors Pennsylvania registration;
ATVs owned and used by a federal, state or local government body;
ATVs owned by a dealer who has been issued a dealer registration certificate and used only in connection with the dealer's business."

I don't know if this includes the permit you purchase in Ohio or not?
