Grabbed a 2nd gen 200X.

Very rare motor to get but I felt it was worth the price. I'll add it to my ATC motor collection :beer

Wow, nice score! Can't say I've seen very many of those come up over the years.

I always thought the same thing about these motors never surfacing, but then that seems to go along with the 200x 4 wheelers in Argentina being made from the 86/7 200x's.

Can't wait to see some pictures of the Engine, maybe some pictures of your Nos engine collection too.

He claimed that they were putting these motors in Karts but soon switched to liquid cooled motors. This was a never ran 86 that he put in a quad chassis and ran for about an hour, decided it wasn't for him. He's a 50 yo man and said it was too quick for him...... I prefer the 86 because it doesn't have the 3rd gear failures and I can upgrade the kicker shaft and cover. Makes me wonder why I've never seen an 87 200X crate motor....

He gave me a used shifter, electronics and exhaust he bought locally to try it out.

Very few scratches on it (unlike most) and I'll just sit on it until I build another 200X with the Durablue axle I got recently :D

So its not a REAL crate motor lol. I thought it was going to be in the original crate. Nice purchase regardless!

Dirtcrasher
01-14-2012, 08:21 PM
I've never seen one in an actual "crate". Normally they got yanked and thrown on a shelf at a shop, a school or anyone's home that could get their hands on them.

Thats why most of them are so scratched up; From being moved around.

Looks good!Even better for what it cost!It is funny there was so many nos 350x motors and no 86 200x.Guess nobody wanted them because they were only 200cc.Are you going to leave it stock or some upgrades?

Dirtcrasher
01-14-2012, 08:33 PM
It will join the others for future use or sale......

I've got 7 used 200X motors I can modify but not enough room to build all the trikes

IDT it's a matter that no one wanted them (and don't forget how few 87's 200X's were made). I think most of them sold; Kinda why we see so many 85 250R crate motors, not so many 86........

good buy steve! ive never ridden a 2nd gen 200x but i owned a 1st gen for a while. it was alright for puttin but it was quite the dog for my fatsack. did pull a 04 crf450 out of the woods in soft sand though ;)

I'll never badmouth the 83-85 200X (aside from the head, kickstarter gears and the oil drain plug ) but anyone who has ridden a fresh 86/87 200X knows how fast and nimble they are. Very well balanced, tons of changes in every aspect yet not nearly as easy to get a ton of power out of them.

I'm 200lbs and my stock one pulled me great, the modified one beats my 1st 350X.........

I'll put it to you this way, I will buy every single 200X/350X motor I can get for under 1000$ until I get into the 450's...........

it stands its ground when it needs to. no doubt i would recommend it to someone getting into trikes. mine had kicker slip but no other problems. im keeping my out out for a 2nd gen.

what kind of value increase are you expecting on the 350x engines dc? ive got one im planning on putting a sprock 400 on it and putting it in my build but if there may be a huge increase over the years i may keep it.

I think as your seeing with fenders, the demand is still there, not on the downslope and not everyone wants a 450R. What if I sat on a motor for 6 years and doubled what I paid? What other investment gets you that? - maybe gold ??!!

IDT Loncin is gonna be making 200X or 350X motors......

Doesn't look bad for the cash, see if you can find out what the motor condition is like.

I totally agree, my 87 is very powerfull and packs a punch for a 200cc engine . I especially like the 6 speed transmission, that extra gear makes a difference because I love to shift through the gears. I am a bit concerned with my 1987 after hearing there are problems with the 3rd gear. Should I be carefull when riding in 3rd? Easy on the throttle? How can I avoid damaging that gear? ANY TIPS?

I agree and ya what about the third gear?? how to prevent! I got a ported carb on mine and damn I love it. Fastest 200 four stroke I have ever rode honestly. I got 15:38 gearing on mine but I cant find another 15tooth front sprocket so I had to drop to 14 tooth in the front, I havent put it on yet but I hope I like it! my bike hangs with a 400ex all the time!

I have 3 87 motors with broken 3rd gears.

Honda for SOME STUPID reason felt 3rd gear was spaced a bit off and because they strive for perfection, they changed it and made it too thin....

There is a pic of a broken 3rd gear in my "20 day build". It's probably a popular hill climbing gear, I'd just take it a bit easy on those........

honda200x1987 - I don't have the feeling you beat and push your trikes so you should be AOK!

^ I think in the build I outlined all the changes. The kicker gear and shaft, clutch lifter, 3rd gear and some oil orifice changes. I think that was it.......

I found the 3rd gear to be so thin and when I started buying bottom ends, I found a few broke into pieces. Thats why I prefer an 86 with the kicker update over a whole 87........

At first I was surprised that a lot of the crate motors are 85's..... but then I thought more.... basically those that did not sell before the deadline, prices were knocked off pretty hard, so wht buy a 85 when there was a 86 available? (350X wise). Once I looked closer at my crate motor, I realized it was a 85... was hoping it was a 86.

Do you collect other NOS/ take off parts?

Dirtcrasher
01-16-2012, 02:48 PM
It's funny because every 350X motor I got was an 86, and most of the ones I see. But I have seen a few 85's.

I collect what I can but when your house starts to fill up with parts, you have to stop

If it's discontinued and I want it, I'll try to get it. Got a NOS 350X rod /pin/bearing 2 weeks ago for 50$ BIN. When it's that cheap, you have to buy it!
