got the swingarm stickered up tonight and new bearings and seals installed. new bearings in the steering neck and triple clamps. pics r before the new bearings. should have the rest of my lil parts back from paint tomorrow or this weekend. then i can really start makin some headway. the gold was a custom mix to try and match and i think it turned out great. trike wont be a show machine, will be ridden hard so i think its gonna look great

Awesome start! Any reason you went with paint over powder coating?

ringdingrider
01-13-2012, 03:11 PM
ease of removal if i should have to do it again or want to change it. shows cracks better. more of a factory feel.

heres where im at right now. wouldve put the engine back in but m gettin new clutch parts today so i might as well keep it out n do it wherever i want instead of wrestlin the trike around. still have a few parts to oreder. but otherwise i have most of the trike sittin in a box ready to be bolted back on. i think its turnin out great. already anxious to start my black and polished big bore build.

Looks REALLY nice. Are you going with the completely original color scheme? Also, just for future reference, did you use single stage paint, or base coat / clear coat?

ringdingrider
01-31-2012, 02:06 PM
yeah sticking with original color scheme on this trike. i believe this was a single stage paint. i will double check with my paint guy. it was some type of paint that actually hardens a lil more for durablility. turned out great. for the gold i took the original swingarm in to my buddies at carquest n they mixed up a batch that came out pretty much perfect, at least to me. n the red looks great.

thanks

got my new clutch parts yesterday. so time to start that. once the motors all squared away then the build can move along pretty quick. still have a couple pricey pieces left to buy though.

Same here iam also getting pricey parts for my R iam looking at some stainless still bolt kit for my R cause when I bought it it had all kinds of mix matched nuts, screws, and bolts and possible aluminum radiators

ringdingrider
02-01-2012, 02:33 AM
i bought the stainless bolt kit for mine. pretty nice so far. found a few that were the wrong size, but nuthin major. has almost every bolt needed.

gus
02-01-2012, 10:58 PM
Witch ones were not the correct size?

ringdingrider
02-01-2012, 11:19 PM
the ones for the black radiator covers. I ordered a set of footpeg bolts too n they sent 2 short bolts n 2 longer bolts. the longer ones do not fit. that's all I've noticed so far.
put my new clutch in last night. should probly order a new clutch basket. also went through n installed new gaskets n all the stainless bolts for the cases n whatnot then put the engine back in the frame. really starting to come together now. just need yo order some bigger parts like a new rear shock and front fender n have my seat redone the she will be looking sharp again.

my paint Guy has the paint codes. should be able to get ahold of him right away next week. as if now my engine is back in. tank is on with shrouds. starting to like my sexy trike again. gotta pack my steering neck bearings n put them on then the front end can go back on. gonna buy a new shock for the rear and install my new bearing carrier n she's just about complete. lil things here n there. oh n buy new exhaust. once I get all that done n put the swingarm back on ill take it out of the house to put the axle in. the end Is near LOL. who am i kidding...they're never done..just like my classic cars and drag/street truck

here's pics without the tank n shrouds. no bolts are tight yet. its more or less mocked up then taken out one by one for locktight and neverseize for whatever ones need what.

gus
02-04-2012, 03:51 PM

ringdingrider
02-06-2012, 12:32 AM

Tonine Ill post up the pics of the bolts I didnt use form the stainless bolt kitand the link for the ones I got from McMaster Carr. $6.00 for a 100 of the bolts like you need fot the radiator mounts from there. My kit was missing a motor mount bolt that I got from there too

Here is what my order was from McMaster Carr go to their site and punch in the part numbers. I have enough of the rad shroud bolts left to do another entire bike. It almost mite be cheaper to buy them all from here in quantities if you are doing more than one machine. The kit is over whelming at first trying to do it all perfect. I just over think stuff. LOL. There not polished but after you wash them once they are all gonna look the same and I ride my ATC. I like these ones I listed on here better the look and the deeper head less prone to stripping than the ones that come in the kit for the rad shrouds and air box. IDK about the right ones for the foot pegs. You will have to do some research for what ones are strong enough. I know Carlos at BDT motorsports has chrome caps screws. And also DO NOT use the shock linkage bolts. Everyone says there not strong enough.

That looks real good man. What front brake line are you running? I need a new one.

ringdingrider
04-19-2012, 09:54 AM
that's a streamline brake line I found from bdt or one of the other big name guys on eBay. there's a lot of front brake line kits, but this one has the protective sleeve for it. ill try n dig up where I found it n let u know

yj350
04-19-2012, 10:17 AM
If you can find out where it came from that would be great. I seen the sleeve on it and thats what I was looking for. You need to hit up Jason Hall to get some peg adapters made to run 450 pegs.

ringdingrider
04-19-2012, 10:22 AM
yeah I really want some bigger nasty pegs...the stickers don't work too great for my riding style...WOT. I need some wide pegs with nasty spikes and kickups.

tried to look up my bid history an eBay but can't to it on my phone. will check after work. but I do know it was a streamline kit so you may be able to contact them

ringdingrider
04-19-2012, 10:27 AM

I picked up a set of the IMS Roll Design pegs on closeout last year for less than $100. They are awsome if you can find a set.

ringdingrider
04-19-2012, 10:54 PM
those are exactly what I would want. that's a steal for them
