well i did the swap and put an 89 cr500 in a 86 250r frame. i got everything worked out exept for the shifter. I used the stock swing arm bolt through the motor and also used the stock 250r head stay motor mounts. but this left the stock shifter a little short. i was just goin to extend it and use it but i thought i remember reading somewhere that someone just used a longer one off of another bike? i was just wondering what all you guys were using? I kinda want to use something that is just bolt on because i want to look for something aftermarket with some bling factor to it. thanks for the help guys

I just used a stock cr shifter with an extension welded in the middle.

The 250SX shifter is pretty long.

Billy has built a few of these, he may have some input.

See what Louis Mielke is running also.......

just checked my 250sx shifter and its about 2" bigger but the 250sx shifter shaft is alot smaller than the 500's. I guess im just gona extend my 250r shifter since the shafts are the same size and the 250r shifter is made of steel.

It's easy enough to do......

If you liked the SX shifter you can chop it off to length and weld it to the 250R clamp.

yeah i thought about that also. but i think im just gona extend the 250r shifter since it has the little spring that lets the tip bend back when you hit something. and also since i no longer need it and i would have to replace the one for my 250sx
