My 225dx has started to smoke under acceleration and seems to be getting worse:( I've taken engines out of the frame on honda 185/200 so many times I could do it in my sleep an just got done putting the engine back in my 350x, and even my old Tri-z, but never taken a engine out of a dx. I looked in the manual and it shows a picture of just the bottom end in the frame of what looks like a dx(manual has all the 200/225 configurations which is difficult to understand at times)

So the million dollar question is can I do a top end rebuild with the engine still in the frame? I am really looking forward to riding this bike on the snow this winter and would hate to have the bike down for too long of time. Having the engine still in the frame would really save time on a rebuild.

Yes you Can. It usually comes down to Literally the difference of a dowel pin. Slide it down the stud to gain that extra 5mm needed.
