Putting a 1981 185S Honda back together. And I have a question.

The cam chain gear that bolts to the cam shaft is currently off of the cam shaft.

It can bolt on in two ways. How do I know which way to bolt the gear onto the camshaft?

I have ripped through the manual but I am not seeing it.

Thanks
Jim

It doesn't matter. It can go either way

There should be a little o on the face of the cam sprocket. Put that at the top aligned with the little mark on the valve cover. Page 56 if you have the factory manual (http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/honda/Honda_ATC185s_200_Service_Manual.pdf).

I have the manual and I see what you mean on page 56. The question that I have is how do you know where to attach the gear to the cam? I would think it does matter. Couldn't it be bolted on 180 degrees off?

Pretty sure that it will matter 180 Degrees off, Is not timed. You attach the Timing chain sprocket to the Cam with the 2 or 3 bolts. Align the "o" Mark on the sprocket.

I just said same thing as every1 but i am Misunderstanding i think.

"how do you know where to attach the gear to the cam?"

You know where ounce your Bolt holes and "o" Mark is all aligned..
