Figured I should start up a build thread now that deer season is over and I actually have time to work on the ol' girl. I'll post more pictures later on, but here's what I started with.

I just finished painting the tank today and applying stickers. Here's a pic after the stickers were done prior to the clear

I'm not going for a wild build, nor an exact OEM replica I just want a super nice fully restored X. I'm getting ready to strip it all down and sand blast everything so it can head to the powdercoater next week!

Thanks fellas. I regretted getting rid of my last one when I got my 450s. This one is going to be fully restored and not used so I can keep it nice. I have a bunch more pictures I'll post tomorrow. The tank I started with was pretty much junk. Im really happy with how it came out though.

Looks like you have a good jump on it with some nice parts :beer

We all need to go through these 26 y.o. trikes if we want them to last.

I may build a 450R someday, but that won't be until I've built my 350X as much as possible and determined when it's time to add a new machine to the collection.

Good luck!

Yeah, I picked up a set of NOS boots. I have bought quite a bit of stuff for it already. The thing was trash when I started. The clear coat is curing on the tank then I'm going to wet sand and buff it and put up some before and after pictures of the tank.

One neat thing I found was it had what I believe was the original plug in it!

Somebody had the bright idea to "wire" in a teather..Their idea of wiring was twisting the wires together and black taping them. I soldered them and took care of that issue as well.

I made a good bit of progress last night, I have everything stripped down ready for powdercoat.

I also got the tank wet sanded and buffed. I couldn't be happier with how it came out. I'll post before and after pictures tomorrow. I also ordered my rear plastics and a new front tire tonight and picked up a good working front brake setup from Team ATC. All that is left is to get it all blasted and brought to the powder coaters and get my seat sent out to the mosh's.

I finally got my seat shipped out to the Mosh's to get restored tonight. Everything is getting sandblasted tomorrow morning and headed straight to the powdercoaters. Here's a couple before and after pictures of the tank.

I ended up pulling/filling 11 dents on the tank. I'm REALLY happy with how it came out, and just seeing that is making me itch to finish the whole thing.

My new wheels will be here tomorrow. I'll be installing the motor tomorrow night, then the wheels and I have to pick up my new chain wed. I'm finishing up painting the calipers and that's about it. Everything on the ol' girl has been replaced with new or reconditioned. I'm super happy with how it's coming out so far. The only thing I'm really lacking for finishing it up is a good headlight shell. I was hoping jesse was going to get his mold down so I could pick one up to finish the project up. I'll have to just find one in good shape on ebay or something and then just sand it down and refinish it. The previous owner thought it would be wise to drill a bunch of small holes in this one for some reason..

Hope you guys enjoy the pics as much as I have during this project!

I hate to say it, but they are Maier. I'm actually really impressed with the fitment. I'm finishing the majority of it up right now. The gold chain really sets it off nicely.

The front is actually just as shiny as the rear..lots of elbow grease to polish it back to life LOL. I think it may be the lighting. Really the only thing I still need to get to finish the build is a good headlight shroud. It has been a blast saving it. I'm looking for a good donor for a 70 transplant now.

Honestly the motor is the BEST one I've seen yet on a 350x. It is super solid, no smoke or noises of any kind and it was never apart. I have yet to start it up since the tear down but that day is coming probably this weekend. I didn't make much progress yesterday, but I did manage to get the chain on.
