Neodymium magnets - says Not for Play

Thinking gearboxes usually have magnetic drain plugs to catch fine metal dust.
Engines relay on filters.

So how about just putting one of these on the outside of the engine drainplug?
for engines with shared oil and simple screens.

I found them at the hw store for 4 bucks.

They are almost impossible to separate and need to be slid apart with some sort of tool.
I tested one on the bottom of a plug on the workbench and the engine side of the plug
almost held a small screwdriver vertical..

My uncle used to put a magnet on the outside of his can oil filters on his trucks but we all knew he was nutts.

Seems like a good idea on the drain plug. Epoxy the magnet to the plug if it's aluminum.

i just drag the drain plug (steel ones) across a good strong magnet a couple times and just magnatize the drain plug itself. i also do it every oil change just to be safe and make sure it stays magantized. x2 on epoxy if it's a non-steel plug.
